Wireless LAN at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (WLAN)

Symbol: WLAN

In addition to open access to the WiFi network on campus, members of the Bauhaus-Universität have the option of using the WiFi network via »eduroam«. Students and employees have uncomplicated, fast and secure access to the campus WiFi of the Bauhaus-Universität and all participating institutions of the »eduroam« network via »eduroam«.

Advantages of »eduroam«

  • The use of a VPN client is no longer necessary to connect to the Internet.
  • Use without additional registration: Members of participating institutions have the opportunity to use WLAN access at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Conversely, employees and students of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar can access the network via WLAN at participating institutions.

Requirements for use

  • User name (personal user ID) at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar or an institution participating in »eduroam«.
  • Device with wireless network connection (compliant with IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n)

Configuration for different devices and operating systems

In order to be able to use »eduroam« , a configuration is first necessary. Instructions for all common operating systems can be found in the »Downloads« section on this page. The configuration for members of the Bauhaus-Universität is also stored at cat.eduroam.org. With this tool, an automated configuration is possible.

Tipps & Tricks

Re-setting up »eduroam« after password change

If »eduroam« does not work after changing the password, please follow the steps below:

  1. Remove the »eduroam«-Netzwerk,
  2. Set the device to flight mode
    (possibly: restart the device),
  3. Switch on Wi-Fi,
  4. Connect to the »eduroam« network,
  5. Enter login data again.

When the connection is established, the flight mode can be switched off again.

Printing via WiFi in the halls of residence

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers the »eduroam« WiFi in the student halls of residence. This WiFi requires authentication in accordance with the IEEE 802.1x network standard.

If your printer does not support this standard, it cannot be used via the »eduroam« WiFi. In this case, depending on the printer model, you may have the following alternatives:

  • USB cable,
  • Wifi- /Wireless-Direct-Print ((The drivers can be obtained via apps from the various manufacturers.),
  • Cloudprinting (e.g. GoogleCloud Print, Apple AirPrint) or
  • Bluetooth

The SCC does not provide support for these alternatives and asks that requests to the user service of this kind be refrained from.

The eduroam SSID is not visible

The access points for »eduroam« are currently being exchanged at the Weimar universities.
Some computers with Intel WLAN cards no longer see the SSID »eduroam«.
Please update your driver for the WLAN network card.
