1. Install security patches immediately

Install security updates immediately to keep your systems up-to-date.

In the case of successful attacks, existing vulnerabilities in the installed and deployed software are often exploited.

To achieve an effective protection, it is essential that patches and updates are installed promptly.

In addition to the operating system you should always keep the used applications (including their extensions / plugins) up-to-date. Also security-relevant driver and firmware updates should be installed immediately. If possible automatic update services should be used.

The integrity and authenticity of the security updates and patches must be ensured (use trusted sources) and check them always with a malware protection program.

Software without vendor support (End-of-life) should no longer be used.

The University's internal Windows systems can use the Windows Server Update Service (WSUS) from Microsoft to get updates.

All systems that are integrated into the centralized desktop management of the SCC, will receive all updates for the installed Software automatically.
