Information on the use of our IT

for employees of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

We welcome you as a new employee at Bauhaus-Universitaet Weimar and wish you a successful and enjoyable time at our institution.

The SCC will support you in getting started in your IT working environment. We have summarised the most important information for you.

Support in case of questions and malfunctions

SCC User Service

The SCC User Service is the central point of contact for questions, needs or fault reports regarding the centrally provided IT services.
For a quick processing of your requests we recommend the use of our web form.

IT Contact Persons

If you have any questions or problems with workstation computers in the faculties, the University Library and the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar, please contact the relevant IT contact person first.

SCC Message Board

The SCC publishes safety warnings, malfunction reports and maintenance announcements on the SCC message board when necessary.

The personal user ID, consisting of username and password, is the prerequisite for using the centrally provided IT services. The personal user ID is used to log on to e.g. centrally administered computers, WiFi (»eduroam«), cloud service (»Nextcloud«) or the e-learning platform »Moodle«.

Notice: Your username is not your first and/or last name.

Usually, the access data is sent to the dean's office by internal post and is ready when you start work. If this is not the case, please ask the staff at the SCC User Service for your access data.

more

With your access data you will also receive an initial password (valid for 90 days), which you should change immediately to prevent unauthorised access to your data. For reasons of IT security, various guidelines also apply to the selection of a password.

The password you create yourself after receiving the initial password is valid for 365 days. Before your password expires, three reminder emails (21, 7 and 3 days before expiry) will be sent to your personal e-mail inbox.
To change your password, you can log in to the password portal with your previous password even after it has expired.

more

Once you have received your log-in, please apply online for your »thoska«, the service ID card of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Please have a digital passport photo (obligatory) ready for the ID card.

The »thoska« card has the following functions:

• Service ID Card
• Library User Card
• Payment medium in canteens and cafeterias as well as for material payments in the university's workshops
• Access authorisation card to selected buildings and rooms (after activation)

Access rights for doors with the »thoska« locking system are assigned by the responsible administrator of the respective area.

more

As a member of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, you will receive a personal e-mail address according to the scheme firstname.lastname@uni-weimar.de in addition to your user ID.
The faculties and departments of the Bauhaus-Universität use this e-mail address by default for sending official information. Therefore, please exclusively use this mailbox for your professional correspondence and check your e-mails regularly.

Employees receive the groupware service »Exchange« for e-mail use and thus support for mail, calendar and contact management.
In addition to using an e-mail client (instructions on how to set this up can be found here), employees and lecturers can also use e-mail conveniently via webmail (OWA = Outlook Web Access).

more

Members and students can use WiFi via »eduroam«  in all buildings at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Education Roaming (»eduroam«) is an initiative that provides participating universities and organisations with internet access at the locations of all participating organisations. This means that for guest lectures, semesters abroad, business trips and the like at a foreign university, you do not have to apply for guest access first, but can log in directly with your known data. In the meantime, almost all European countries are represented in »eduroam« and more and more universities in the respective countries are joining their research networks.

more

In order to access internal IT resources (e.g. central storage areas, forms, etc.) from outside the Bauhaus-Universität, a VPN connection is required. You log in with your user ID ( username and password).

more

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers central storage space for personal file storage (home drive) and for sharing data in common access (project drives).

If you would like to access it from an external location - for example, from your home office - a VPN connection must be established first.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar also offers all authorised users the option of using a  cloud storage facility (»Nextcloud«). You can log in with your user ID (user name and password). Here, data can be exchanged with other users and jointly edited. Onlyoffice" for collaborative work is also integrated.

more

The SCC manages the telephone infrastructure of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and thus ensures the general telephone supply of the university. In addition to the use of the telephone network in administration and research, the service software »Cisco Jabber« is also available for controlling one's own office telephone via PC and Mac.
