Description

Questionnaires are one of the most commonly used methods for collecting data, whether for a perception study, an opinion poll, or social science field research. The evaluation of these questionnaires is usually subject to standard statistical procedures that consider each question separately. Correlations between answers or connections to orthogonal information, such as the demographics of the participants, are often overlooked.

As part of this student project, we will develop visualization and interaction techniques that can represent different question types, e.g., single-choice, multiple-choice, rating scale, or free-text, reveal relationships between answers and demographics, and thus significantly facilitate the analysis of questionnaire data.

Prerequisites

All participants should enjoy working in an interdisciplinary group and be able to converse in English. In addition, you should have:

  • Strong programming skills in Javascript and D3.js.
  • A completed Visualization course.
  • An interest in data analysis and visual analytics.

Assessment

The final assessment of your work will be conducted based on the project contributions of every team member, including:

  • Active participation in the project during and in between weekly meetings
  • Presentation of literature
  • Design, implementation and evaluation of visualization and interaction techniques
  • Intermediate and final project presentations
  • Final report
