Beschreibung:

Information Visualization in Virtual Reality

Virtual reality technology is typically employed for displaying spatial information such as CAD data, crash simulations or computer games. In many areas, further abstract information also needs to be accessed which is typically visualized with information visualization techniques on 2D displays. The goal of this project is to make such information visualization techniques available in virtual reality scenarios. Scatterplots, parallel coordinates or graph drawings are likely to be implemented as 2D widgets.

Other approaches could make use of the third dimension to exploit immersive interfaces. Our open source framework guacamole as well as the virtual reality system Avango will be used for the development process. This software infrastructure supports modern rendering techniques and interactive scripting as well as the collaboration of local and distributed user groups in complex virtual worlds.
