The starting point for the on-spot-work is the connection to local actors from administration, social work, urban planning, NGOs or other associations and other people, who dedicate themselves to the creation of a welcoming culture in their city.

Students with German and Arabic background form teams, which on the spot communicate with the respective stakeholders about the project and the achievable targets. The Chair coaches these teams in the "workshop social space analysis". In general, the main focus is on,

what the starting point for the welcoming culture looks like. To catch this initial situation, the project inventories the problems and possibilities in the sense of a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, risks). This is done through interviews with refugees and the locally responsible people.

In a next step, the project creates communication opportunities on the most urgent subjects, such as on education, health care, or work. For this purpose, the project offers external contributions and content-impulses, such as the transfer of positive experiences to other places.

In a third step the project facilitates an intensified reflection on concrete implementations and projects in particular neighborhoods or areas, for instance inspired by  the respective student workshops.
