1) Why are you researching or studying at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar?

I'm doing my masters in public art and new artistic strategies. this program has been of interest to me because it deals with the topic of art in public space and how to work with unexpected audiences outside gallery spaces. And this is exactly what I have been doing the past two years: working on a public art project together with a local family and Verein in Heichelheim, north of Weimar. The idea revolves around reviving a former Kartoffelfest (1996 to 2011) into a contemporary art biennale "kartoffiennale", which takes the village and its history as a place that art emerges from and not superimposed on, and doing that while in close relationship with the local community there.

2) What makes your project special, and why is it relevant?

»kartoffiennale« is a project that was born out of a beautiful mix of perfect timing, opportunity, and interested people. the project deals with the topic of art in rural areas and how artists can contribute to social life there. This is one of the aspects of participatory art and public art practices. "kartoffiennale" reimagines the traditional Heichelheim Kartoffelfest as a contemporary cultural platform that brings together local residents, farmers, artists, and visitors through food, art, and shared experiences. Its strength lies in using food as a common language to foster dialogue, participation, and community building. The project is relevant because it addresses the growing need for social cohesion and meaningful public spaces. By connecting regional heritage with contemporary cultural practices, kartoffiennale strengthens local identity while creating new opportunities for exchange, collaboration, and collective imagination.
