Description

Collaborative virtual reality can ease the planning and remote monitoring of construction processes and also enable the practice of the resulting procedures. Some basic technologies are still under development, e.g. in research projects at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

A current cooperation project with industrial partners, for example, is dedicated to new (remote) control technologies and training forms for the safe operation of suction excavators.

In this project we would like to combine relevant preliminary work of our working group as well as the available project modules or useful placeholders thereof in an integrated suction excavator simulation. Our goal is the use and iterative further development of the resulting application for the design of training scenarios in close cooperation with RSP, the manufacturer of the machines in Saalfeld.

You will learn about and work on the following topics:

  • The setup of collaborative VR applications with HMDs and projection screens using Unity and Avango-Guacamole as software platforms
  • Implementation of 3D manipluation techniques with Unity
  • Iterative user-centered software development

Possible Areas of Specialization:

  • Integration of advanced rendering techniques in Unity
  • Development of suction excavation process simulator including the physical modeling of particle systems
  • Implementation of gestural 3D modeling tools in Unity
  • Development of study methods for the evaluation of training success with different media
  • Development and evaluation of new control techniques for suction excavators
  • Integration of existing hardware for construction vehicles into the simulations

  • Iterative nutzerzentrierte Softwareentwicklung

Mögliche Vertiefungen:

  • Integration fortschrittlicher Renderingtechniken in Unity
  • Entwicklung einer Saugprozesssimulation mit physikalisch modellierten Partikelsystemen
  • Implementierung gestischer 3D Modellierungswerkzeugen in Unity
