Projekt: »Can Physical Barriers Effectively Prevent Infections when Considering Human Movement?«
Thüringer Programm zur Förderung von Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen und Nachwuchskünstlerinnen
1) Why are you researching or studying at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar?
I chose doing my research at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar because of its strong interdisciplinary approach. The combination of art, sciences, and technology provide a perfect environment for innovative thinking especially in the area of indoor air quality which aligns with my research interest.
2) What is special about your project? Why is it relevant?
What makes my project special is the development of a novel infection-control device which is an enhanced version of the typical physical barrier used in indoor environments. Unlike traditional partitions that offer limited protection and fail to adapt to occupant movements or respiratory activities, my design integrates active components such as localized exhaust fans to significantly improve the capture and redirection of airborne contaminants.
The relevance of this project lies in its direct contribution to healthier building designs in a post-pandemic world. The findings from this project will inform evidence-based guidelines for indoor air safety and support interdisciplinary efforts in architecture, public health, and building physics.
