About Nature and Other Collaborators

With Anne Duk Hee Jordan & Andreas Greiner 

For her last solo exhibition at Kunstverein Arnsberg «Ziggi Goes Wild» Anne Duk Hee Jordan collaborated with a fictional character she created which stands for the beauty, strangeness, queerness and exoticism of the sea creatures who are subject to various mutations and changes in their sexuality in the face of the global climate change. In her films, Jordan outlines the scenario of a post-anthropocentric age in which mankind is no longer at the center of nature.
Similarly, the experimental artist Andreas Greiner examines influences of mankind on biological and environmental processes, focusing on anthropogenic influence in nature’s evolution and form. In the exhibition «Agentur des Exponenten» (Agency of the Exponent) at the Berlinische Galerie, Greiner presented a giant skeleton of a broiler chicken, a monumental gesture of acknowledgment towards a species that represents the alienation of western society from nature and biodiversity. Greiner's current topic of exploration surrounds saving and expanding forest landscapes through cultural practices to battle climate change.

Anne Duk Hee Jordan

Transformation is a central theme of Jordans artistic work. Based on historical and scientific facts, classical myths and poetry, she conveys collective experiences in a socio-political statement, often in a humorous way. On the one hand, she works with biological matter, whose growth and decline she integrates into her artistic practice, and on the other hand, she approaches physical processes. Since many of her sculptures and installations involve growth or change processes, they often develop in stages, implementing spatial and seasonal parameters. By analysing structures and systems, she tries to conduct a scientific exchange in addition to the artistic component. She often interweaves her projects interdisciplinary with educational communities (Kultur Agenten, Unsere Urbane Botanik) and cooperation partners (for example the Research Center for Experimental Marine Biology, Prof. Dr. Miren P. Cajaraville, Marine Biologist Dr. Amalia Martínez de Murguía, Geologist Prof. Dr. Asier Hilario, or Dr. Hauschka) as well as institutional art organizations worldwide. She creates homo stupidus robots, immersive video installations, theatre set designs and edible landscapes at the intersection of social, agrarian and ecological questions (eg. Into the Wild , Ziggy and the Starfish  and Changing Sex in Ecology ). For the most part, her work builds on each other and is systematically interconnected.

Andreas Greiner

* 1979, Aachen (DE) 

Andreas Greiner is a graduate of both the University of Fine Arts in Berlin and the Institute of Spatial Experiments. After studying medicine, anatomy and sculpture he now focuses on time-based and digital art works. His creative practice pushes the boundar- ies of classical parameters in sculpture. The content of his work focuses on the anthropo- genic influence on nature’s evolution and form. He is part of the artist collectives A / A and Das Numen.
