4.11. Bas van de Poel @ Bauhaus Design Positions
We are pleased to welcome Bas van de Poel of »Modem« for a lecture as part of Bauhaus Design Positions. Interested parties are cordially invited to join on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, 5.30 p.m., at the Van-de-Velde building. Bring a friend!
In this lecture, Bas will discuss the motivation behind Modem's self-imposed end date of 2030—a deliberate choice to frame the studio as a time-bound experiment. By embracing its temporary nature, Modem cultivates an environment that encourages risk-taking, urgency, and the creation of work that is both innovative and time-sensitive.
About Bas van de Poel:
Bas van de Poel is the co-founder of Modem, an office for design and innovation dedicated to envisioning how forward-thinking companies and institutions can thrive amidst exponential change. Modem approaches this mission both as a think tank, collaborating with academic partners such as Harvard GSD, MIT MediaLab, and UC Berkeley, and as a design studio, working with clients including OpenAI, the European Commission, and Chanel.
Prior to founding Modem, Bas served as Creative Director at IKEA's future-living lab, SPACE10, where he led large-scale digital transformation and sustainability programs.
