Aspects of the history of European urbanism in the 20th century

The seminar will deal with housing and urban policies in Europe during the 20th century in France, Italy, Spain and Sweden as well as in different concepts of society, such as state socialism or the welfare state. Topics in detail are:

     

  • The Swedish welfare state ideal in times of transition
  •  

  • A century of housing policies in france
  •  

  • A socialist way for housing policy, the example of Scandinavia and Central Europe
  •  

  • The evolution of urban planning in Spain and the "spontaneous" development of popular housing neighbourhoods
  •  

  • Italian urbanism after the II World War
  •  

 

The seminar is conducted by four researchers staying at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for summerterm 2018 and doing their research within a larger group of 15 Early Stage Researchers at four universities in Europe within the Eu-funded project urbanHIST.
