Hi, we are Isabella Lee Arturo (she/her) and Camilo Londoño Hernández (he/him // they/them), two Colombian artists who want to create a collective poem on queer stories of affection in public space in Germany.

Context. (What are we doing?)

Currently, we are carrying out the project <<Palabras Tangibles>> (Tangible words), a publication based on the intimate physical touch within LGBTQ+ people and the discrimination we face when displaying affection in public spaces due to queerphobia. In our daily lives, even simple gestures like holding hands can be met with hostility and violence. Based on these experiences, we will make an art book. 

Our objective is to collaborate and conduct interviews with LGBTQ+ migrants in Weimar, Leipzig, and Berlin during March 2026. These interviews will be audio-recorded only. To keep our intimacy we will not use visual devices or videos. Your voice will transform into a verse of the whole collective poem in the book. 

How?

Based on these shared words, we will create the book using thermo-sensitive paper. This paper will reveal the text only when the reader touches it, creating an interactive element. The book cover will also be made of the same material, making visible the act of reading and holding the book. The book’s color is black, which initially appears empty of text. This choice of color is deliberate, as it evokes the association with censorship and the suppression of information. Finally, we are also thinking of activating this book via performative readings. To make this project a reality, we are supported by the Kreativefonds 2025 from the Bauhaus-Universität-Weimar. Equally, the publication will be designed by the independent publishing house .efímera. 

Why?

Migration and queer experiences share both constant discrimination and resilience. Despite queerphobia and xenophobia, collective practices of care (such as the sharing of stories within communities and tactics to navigate systemic restrictions) help LGBTQ+ migrants overcome daily obstacles. These strategies thus become inner tools for survival and for living with dignity. The idea of a book that holds emotional intimacy—which can be hidden or revealed depending on cultural context—serves as a poetic analogy for how queer and migrant experiences learn when and how to narrate their stories. Whether in hostile environments or in more accepting spaces that allow for openness, the book and its performative activation embody a queer approach: one in which non-hegemonic stories are shared on their own self-determined terms.

What will you get? 

First of all, you will be part of a collaboration that sets a common ground between body, words, and collective empathy among migrants willing to share and transform our fear into queer resilience. 

Secondly, you will share credits on this publication. If you desire to keep your name anonymous, that could also be an option. 

We cannot offer you a collaboration fee, however you will get an art piece as an outcome of the book research!

Contexto. (¿Qué estamos haciendo?)

Actualmente, llevamos a cabo el proyecto «Palabras Tangibles», una publicación basada en el contacto físico íntimo entre personas LGBTQ+ y la discriminación a la que nos enfrentamos cuando mostramos afecto en espacios públicos debido a la queerfobia. En nuestra vida cotidiana, incluso gestos tan simples como cogernos de la mano pueden ser recibidos con hostilidad y violencia. A partir de estas experiencias, crearemos un libro de arte.

Nuestro objetivo es colaborar y realizar entrevistas a migrantes LGBTQ+ en Weimar, Leipzig y Berlín durante el mes de marzo del 2026. Estas entrevistas se grabarán únicamente en audio. Para mantener nuestra intimidad, no utilizaremos dispositivos visuales ni videos. Tu voz se transformará en un verso del poema colectivo que formará parte del libro.

¿Cómo?

A partir de estas palabras compartidas, crearemos el libro utilizando papel termosensible. Este papel revelará el texto solo cuando el lector lo toque, creando un elemento interactivo. La cubierta del libro también estará hecha del mismo material, haciendo visible el acto de leer y sostener el libro. El color del libro es negro, lo que inicialmente parece vacío de texto. La elección del color es deliberada, ya que evoca la asociación con la censura y la supresión de la información. Por último, también estamos pensando en activar este libro mediante lecturas performativas. (¡Estén atentos!)

Para hacer realidad este proyecto, contamos con el apoyo del Kreativefonds 2025 de la Bauhaus-Universität-Weimar. Asimismo, la publicación será diseñada por la editorial independiente .efímera.

¿Por qué?

La migración y las experiencias queer comparten un marco de experiencias caracterizados por la discriminación constante y, al mismo tiempo, por la resiliencia. Frente a la queerfobia, la xenofobia y las múltiples violencias basadas en el odio, emergen redes de cuidado colectivo, espacios de intercambio narrativo y estrategias para sortear y habitar sistemas de opresión. Estas estrategias se convierten así en herramientas internas para sobrevivir y vivir con dignidad. La idea de un libro que contiene intimidad emocional—capaz de ocultarse o revelarse según las condiciones externas— sirve como analogía poética de cómo las experiencias queer y migrantes aprenden cuándo y cómo narrar sus historias. Ya sea en entornos hostiles o en espacios más tolerantes que permiten la apertura, el libro y su activación performativa encarnan una perspectiva queer: una en el que las historias no hegemónicas se comparten en sus propios términos.

¿Qué obtendrás?

En primer lugar, formarás parte de una colaboración que establece un territorio común entre el cuerpo, las palabras y la empatía colectiva entre lxs migrantes dispuestxs a compartir y transformar nuestro miedo en resiliencia cuir.

En segundo lugar, compartirás los créditos de esta publicación. Si deseas mantener tu nombre en el anonimato, también es posible.

No podemos ofrecerte una remuneración por la colaboración, pero recibirás una obra de arte como resultado de la investigación del libro.
