Type a prompt, copy the output, carry on with the semester. Generative AI has long been part of everyday student life, yet what happens behind the scenes, and where the limits lie in academic work, often stays unclear. This is exactly where the »genAI-Driving License« comes in: a self-paced online course that takes you from simply using the tools to actually understanding them, in around 60 minutes.
The course explains in plain terms how generative AI works, what opportunities and risks come with it, and which rules apply to using it responsibly in your studies. Instead of just reading, you work through interactive exercises: using the genKI traffic light, you decide for yourself how you would judge typical situations from student life, and you get feedback on your choice right away. Tool tips and pointers to further learning resources round things off. No prior knowledge required; the course is designed as a low-threshold entry point.
The course was developed by the eTeach-Netzwerk Thüringen and Friedrich Schiller University Jena and is hosted on the Virtueller Campus Thüringen, the shared Moodle platform of Thuringia's higher education institutions. Simply log in with your university account (Shibboleth). The course is available in both German and English.
You can start right away, at your own pace, whenever it suits you: https://virtueller-campus-thueringen.de/enrol/index.php?id=191
