Projektbeschreibung

Park an der Ilm is a walkable work of art with diverse views of the landscape, park structures and places to sit down and contemplate. To this day, it continues to offer visitors a place to relax, learn and enjoy nature’s beauty.
Tragically its main exhibits are dying. Adding to their old age, many trees face further challenges. A majority of them are non-local varieties and therefore not in the correct climate zone, thus facing pests and ecological circumstances, their species is not adapted for. Climate change, the intensive use of the park and the need to keep up its appearance are also relevant factors. While Klassik Stiftung has been going to great lengths to protect the trees, the majority of Ilmpark’s users remain clueless about the problems of the park.
Our installation seeks to initiate a discussion on rethinking nature’s relevance. For too long, it has been taken for granted. The last couple of years have shown the necessity to inform ourselves and to face the concerning truth.
Following nature’s ever generous and forgiving character, our installation is supposed to be seen as a gesture of reconciliation. The low hanging fruit offers the opportunity to regain knowledge and start off into a new understanding of nature.
We propose glowing orbs, hanging from the trees that act as communicative devices, translating the thoughts and needs of the trees into human language, accessibly sharing information, allowing those passing by to participate with no exceptions.
