Das Forschungsinteresse der Professur liegt auf Innovationen, den zugrunde liegenden Technologien und dem Bereich Entrepreneurship. Im Fokus stehen Fragen des Technologie- und Wissenstransfer sowie die Prozess- und Projektgestaltung erfolgreicher Innovationsvorhaben. Wir untersuchen u.a., wie Forschungsverbünde, strategische Allianzen und Kooperationen – etwa zwischen Forschungseinrichtungen, Industrie und Politik – Innovationsprozesse beschleunigen, um Forschungsergebnisse, insbesondere im Bereich nachhaltiger Technologien schnell und effizient zur breiten, praktischen Anwendung zu bringen.
Auch junge Wachstumsunternehmen (Start-ups) und Spin-offs, bspw. Ausgründungen aus Forschungsprojekten, sind zentrale Treiber für Innovation und Transfer. Im Rahmen unserer Entrepreneurship-Forschung fokussieren wir uns vor allem auf die frühen, kritischen Phasen technologieorientierter Gründungs- bzw. Ausgründungsprojekte. In aktuellen Studien analysieren wir u. a. die Rolle von Startup-Acceleratoren, Inkubatoren und Gründerteams, die Bedeutung strategischer Partnerschaften mit etablierten Unternehmen (Strategic Entrepreneurship) sowie den Einfluss regionaler Ökosysteme auf die Entwicklung von Tech-Start-ups.
