
Dr. Zegeye Cherenet Mamo
Zegeye Cherenet Mamo (Dr.-Ing.) is an architect and urbanist. He is an Assistant Professor in EiABC - AAU. Head of Competence Center for Architecture and Design in the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development (EiABC) in Addis Ababa University (AAU). He also is a head of the Emerging Cities Lab (ECL-AA) – a collaborative research lab established by Bauhaus-University Weimar and EiABC-AAU. He earned B.Sc. in Architecture and Urban Planning from Addis Ababa University; a Master of Architecture from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee; and a PhD (Doctor of Engineering in Spatial Design Strategies) from HafenCity University Hamburg, Germany. He has been teaching architectural and urban design, construction, and theory of architecture and urbanism for more than 30 years in various universities in Ethiopia and in Europe. He has travelled extensively around the world researching on structures of cities and lecturing on trends of urbanization in Africa. He has been guest lecturer and international reviewer of student projects at graduate level at various universities such as ETHZ – Switzerland, Harvard Graduate School of design, Bauhaus-University Weimar and HafenCity University Hamburg, Germany; TU-Delft, Netherlands, and also a DAAD visiting professor at ABK Stuttgart, Germany. He also serves as a jury member for international architectural competitions and jury for international architectural awards. His current research focuses on integrated infrastructure planning and the Architecture of the Productive City within environmentally sensitive sites. He also runs a consulting firm OADUS (Office for Architecture, Design and Urban Studies) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
