BUCABUMA
Building Capacity in Circular Natural Building Materials using Frugal Digital and Traditional Engineering Innovations
The ECL-AA is part of BUCABUMA (Building Capacity in Circular Natural Building Materials using Frugal Digital and Traditional Engineering Innovations), a four-year EU-funded academic cooperation project running from 2026 to 2029.
BUCABUMA brings together a consortium of universities from Africa and Europe, including Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Nairobi, Addis Ababa University – SBE, University of the Witwatersrand, and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
The project aims to advance sustainable and circular construction by integrating traditional building knowledge with digital design and fabrication technologies, focusing on the use of natural and renewable materials to address climate change, resource efficiency, and affordable housing challenges.
Through academic mobility, joint research, postgraduate supervision, and capacity building, ECL-AA contributes to strengthening education and research in circular construction, digital innovation, and climate-resilient building practices within the Ethiopian and regional context.
BUCABUMA is funded by the European Union under the NDICI-MOBAF programme.
