Ministerial Visit to the BPL
On 6 June 2025, Thuringia’s Minister of Science, Christian Tischner, visited the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar as part of his state-wide dialogue tour. A key highlight of his visit was a stop at the Bauhaus Participation Lab (BPL), located in the Digital Bauhaus Lab.
There, Minister Tischner and members of the university’s leadership were introduced to digital participation tools developed at BPL. Using Virtual Reality, the lab creates immersive environments that allow citizens to explore and interact with urban planning scenarios. The goal is to make planning processes more transparent, accessible, and collaborative from an early stage.
In several public workshops - adressing the future of the Mobility Hub in Weimar - these tools are being tested and refined. The resulting insights will help shape new models for digital public participation in urban planning.
Minister Tischner’s visit underscored the university’s role as a driver of technological innovation in participatory planning and highlighted the importance of dialogue between science, politics, and society.
