The Bauhaus Research School helps students with low incomes to publish their theses by offering a printing subsidy.
Submission as electronic document (OPUS Weimar)
Theses in electronic format are published on the OPUS Weimar publication portal.
If you are considering having your thesis published by a publishing house in the near future, you should clarify the possibility of prior or parallel online publication with the publishing house.
For theses being published in a publication series by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar publishing house (Verlagsgruppe arts + science Weimar), the work may be published in parallel on the OPUS Weimar server in the version submitted for the doctoral examination under a contract formalised between the university and the publishing house.
Further information about OPUS is available in info sheet no. 18.
If (initial) publication is on OPUS Weimar, doctoral candidates are free to also publish their work in print format via a publishing house.
Six printed and bound copies must also be submitted alongside the online publication.
Publication on the OPUS Weimar publication Weimar involves the following steps:
Your document will be approved after a formal examination. You will be informed by email.
Submission of a publishing house publication
If you opt for publication by a publishing house, please note the following:
If the title is changed by the publishing house, please note this in the imprint or another suitable location (e.g. by stating ‘The thesis was submitted under the title: ...’)
Three publisher’s copies are required to fulfil the publication requirement.
Since the amendment of the German Copyright Act (UrhG) in 2014, the authors of scientific contributions are entitled under specific conditions to publish these works in online repositories as a secondary publication, even if this right is not provided for by the publication contract concluded with the publisher of the initial publication. OPUS facilitates this secondary publication.
