Publishing scientific findings and making them publicly accessible is a central component of any research activity. Nowadays, there are numerous ways to do this - from print publications to digital provision in open access.
Here you will find an overview of internal and external support services as well as options for publishing and financing your scientific publications.
The University Library is the point of contact for the following topics relating to academic publishing:
The Bauhaus-Universitätsverlag performs the tasks of a university publishing house of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. It offers members and affiliates of the university the opportunity to publish in a professional and well-established publishing house.
The work of the Bauhaus-Universitätsverlag is accompanied by an editorial board on the university side. This currently (spring 2025) consists of:
On the publisher's website you will find useful information on the procedure for a successful publication and important tips to ensure that your publication project runs smoothly.
The LUCIA-Verlag emerged from a student graduation project in 2014 and has since offered creative and original work in the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar environment a public space. The program includes a wide range of publications from different faculties and in a variety of formats within the central areas of art and design, cultural and media studies and architecture.

The Affiliationsleitlinie für forschungsbezogene Publikationen defines standardized information on institutional affiliation, such as the uniform spelling of the name “Bauhaus-Universität Weimar” (also in English). In addition, the use of persistent identifiers (PID) plays a central role in linking public data. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar recommends the registration of DOIs (Digital Object Identifier) for publications, the creation and maintenance of an ORCID iD (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) for researchers and the use of the ROR ID (Research Organization Registry) as a unique reference for the university. These and other options for using PIDs for other areas of application are covered by the PID Network.
The publication of research data is generally used to provide evidence of research results in scientific publications or to present independent research projects. Compliance with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) is important here in order to make the research data reproducible and reusable. A suitable platform for publication can be found via the re3data.org register or help can be obtained by contacting the specialist communities at the NFDI (Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur) or the FID (Fachinformationsdienste). The EU-funded Zenodo platform or REFODAT, which was set up in Thuringia, can be used as general repositories. Files of over 100GB can be submitted to the latter and feedback is provided on compliance with the FAIR principles. For further questions on the organization of research data and their publication, please contact the research data management team at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is participating in the joint project “Thüringer Universitätsbibliographie” of the cooperation network of Thuringian university libraries. The new university bibliography system is used to record the publications of the university's academics. The new platform offers functionalities such as
The system is currently being developed at the University Library of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Currently, publication metadata from various systems is being imported and processed. The university bibliography is scheduled to go live at the beginning of 2026.
