From Monday, 22 June, to Sunday, 28 June 2026, the fifth »Campus Pride Week« will take place at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar on the occasion of the »Dyke* March Weimar« (Saturday, 13 June) and the CSD Weimar (Saturday, 27 June). For one week, sexual and gender diversity will be celebrated on campus and queer history, art and culture will take centre stage. The diverse program invites all members and affiliates of the university to engage with the complex realities of queer people's lives, and offers members of the queer communities various opportunities to exchange ideas and network.
This year's »Campus Pride Week« is organized by the Equal Opportunity Office, the Diversity Department, the StuKo Department »QueerYMR« and the »Diversity Guides«, in cooperation with the Dyke March* Weimar, the CSD Weimar and the AIDS-Hilfe Weimar & Ostthüringen e.V..
To mark the start of »Campus Pride Week«, a banner featuring the »Inter*-inclusive Progress Pride Flag« will once again be hoisted on the central balcony of the Main Building. The flag symbolises the diversity of gender identities and sexual orientations and demonstrates the university’s commitment to solidarity with the queer communities.
Prof. Peter Benz, President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, affirms: »Five years of Campus Pride Week — this is no foregone conclusion, but a commitment we renew every year. Especially now, in the face of increasing queerphobic, anti-feminist and anti-democratic attacks, taking a stand is not an option, but a duty. Queer people and feminist perspectives are part of this university — and that will remain the case.«
For »Campus Pride Week«, there will once again be a varied programme for students, doctoral candidates and employees on queer topics, to which we cordially invite all university members!

In collaboration with Dyke* March Weimar, the Equal Opportunity Office invites you to a reading of the novel »Sperrgut« with the author and 2025 Alfred Döblin Prize winner Sophia Merwald.
Synopsis:
»It all begins with Kristalloma: she builds a house from scratch on an industrial wasteland, and the Lusthansa becomes a home for women who have none. Years later, under the care of Kristalloma and her partner Bruno, a new community takes shape there: friends Maj and Stevie, along with their father and his wife Linde, join them. Three generations live together under the self-built roof, sharing paprika soup, watching Astro TV together and looking out for one another. Until the nearby town turns up on the doorstep with a demolition order and the Lusthansa has to fight for its very existence.
In her debut, Sophia Merwald invents a language all of her own — lyrical and playful, yet razor-sharp in its observations; surreal, yet imbued with a profound sense of truth.« (Translation of the publisher's announcement text)
Critical acclaim:
»A few years ago, a very young, unknown writer read from her work in my garden to an audience of 100, who all sat up and took notice. Because the text and the language were astonishingly entertaining, unexpectedly masterful, and the text ›worked‹ in the best sense of the word. Recently, this author was awarded the Alfred Döblin Prize. Her name is Sophia Merwald. And this text in your hands is her already award-winning debut.« (Nora Gomringer; translation from German)
»This book is an earthquake in the German-language literary landscape.« (Yevgeniy Breyger; translation from German)
»It is the unpredictability of Sophia Merwald’s language, that idiosyncratic, fairy-tale-like quality, that makes me feel: I would love for this author to tell me everything.« (Anne Sauer; translation from German)

Synopsis:
»When shy Colin meets the charismatic Ray in a bar, he’s instantly smitten. He can hardly believe that the attractive biker has chosen him, of all people, to be his new partner. Ray demands absolute submission, to which Colin is only too willing. He cleans, cooks, does the shopping and sleeps on the bedside rug without complaint. In return, Ray opens the door to an exciting world of wild adventures and sexual ecstasy. Whilst his parents grow increasingly worried, Colin is enjoying his new life to the full. Yet a quiet longing is slowly stirring within him for something that Ray may never be able to give him.
Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Potter star Harry Melling shine in Harry Lighton’s surprisingly sensitive dom-com, delivering outstanding performances brimming with humour, tenderness and emotional depth. On Sunday, June 28, at 1:30 PM, the annual memorial service for the »Pink Triangle Prisoners« of the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora concentration camps will take place at Buchenwald Memorial. The event is organized every year by the AIDS-Hilfe Weimar & Ostthüringen e.V and the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorials Foundation.
The event commemorates the men persecuted and murdered by the National Socialists as homosexuals, around 700 of whom were deported to the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora concentration camps between 1937 and 1945. About one third of the prisoners marked as »homosexual« with the Pink Triangle and interned in Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora died in the concentration camps. Many survivors left Germany after the end of World War II.
Before the memorial service, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the Buchenwald Memorial will be offering a free public tour of the premises, focusing on the fates of the »Pink Triangle Prisoners«.
The Equal Opportunity Office and the Diversity Department will take part in the memorial service and lay down a mourning bouquet by the commemorative stone for the homosexual men imprisoned and killed in Buchenwald. We would like to invite all students, doctoral candidates and employees of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar to join us in commemorating the homosexual and other queer victims of National Socialism.
