The 3D RealityCapture-ScanLab (3reCapSL) is set up in the Computer Vision Lab. This camera dome, 2.8 m in diameter, consists of 117 mirrorless high-resolution system cameras including accessories for a almost complete 360-degree capture of a scene. Linked with a precise synchronization and controlled, diffuse lighting, defined moments of dynamic scenes thus can be visually frozen as a static 3D model.

For flexible use, the 3reCapSL is composed of 12 modularly racks with cabling for power, data and precise synchronization. A real-time and step-by-step photogrammetric analysis of the image information is performed with appropriate hierarchically distributed high-performance computing technology and software.

Furthermore, a video camera array with 12 high-end video cameras is available to capture natural movements geometrically and temporally with highest resolution.

Controlled illumination with different light colors and from different directions enables photometric research on surface properties and materials. Other applications include the production of large 3D training datasets for machine learning (AI) research on spatial analysis and object recognition.

The following list represents an extract of the available measurement devices:

  • various DSLR cameras (Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon EOS 100D), DSLM cameras (Canon EOS M6 Mark II) and different lenses with fixed focal length (EF-M 22mm, EF 50mm, EF 105mm) or zoom capability (EF 24-105mm, EF 70-200mm)
  • high-end video cameras (XIMEA CB200CG-CM) with Canon lenses (EF 50mm)
  • GigE-Vision industrial video cameras (Baumer TXG14f/cf) with Ricoh/Pentax lenses
  • high-performance LED panels (Neewer bi-color panels and RGB color panels)
  • various control computers and workstations
