Save the Date: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Invites You to the summaery2026 Annual Exhibition

From 9 to 12 July 2026, the University campus will once again transform into a venue for exhibitions, discussions, and encounters. Students and instructors from all departments will be presenting over 150 projects and research findings from the past academic year during the »summaery2026« annual exhibition. This year’s theme, selected by the Faculty of Media, is: »prompt‽«, a term that alludes to artificial intelligence and can also be understood as a catalyst for new ideas and a starting point for creative processes.

How have AI tools transformed our research and design processes? Which algorithms are influencing our disciplines? And how can we orchestrate human creativity and machine intelligence? The theme of summaery is »prompt‽« and is an invitation for visitors to come and discover the University’s projects at the intersection of technology, design, science, and society – not just to see the results, but the process as well.

The focus on artificial intelligence is no coincidence: This year, the Faculty of Media is taking the lead and has devised the theme. A prompt is a specific input, instruction, or question directed at an AI system. »But we don’t understand »prompt‽« as a technological given; we see it as a subject to be critically examined – even when we consider it as something unrelated to AI systems as tools and sources of inspiration«, explains Prof. Jan Oliver Ringert, Dean of the Faculty of Media.

»Prompt« is both a call to action and a catalyst. It represents speed, precision, and reactivity. It also refers to the central point of interaction between humans and artificial intelligence: The input field that determines which answers, images, analyses, or designs are generated. The interrobang »‽« combines question and exclamation, representing curiosity and urgency, experimentation and reflection, openness and responsibility.

Between Input and Insight: The summaery2026 Design

Ames Grund, Hannes Altmann, and August Guccione, three students from the Visuelle Kommunikation (Visual Communication) Bachelor’s degree programme, have translated the ambiguity of the theme into a design. Their design interprets the act of prompting mainly as a tool and a craft. The students designed two original stencils for summaery that also serve as the central theme of the posters and have been used (as a tool!) for designing additional formats.

A map and comprehensive summaery website outline the diverse programme of events: The traditional highlights of the summaery – such as the Opening Event on Thursday evening, the OpenLabNight, and the Lyonel Award Ceremony on Friday, the Alumni Reunion on Saturday, and the Summer Reel on Saturday night – are all set to take place right on schedule, along with some other surprises.
