Am 20. April beginnt ein neues Kapitel am Bauforschungsstandort Weimar: Auf rund 4.300 Quadratmetern Nutzfläche entsteht im Ortsteil Tröbsdorf ein modernes Technikum für nachhaltiges Bauen. Das »Innovationszentrum-Bau« wird vom IAB – Institut für Angewandte Bauforschung Weimar gGmbH realisiert und wird die Zusammenarbeit mit der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar sowie der Materialforschungs- und -prüfanstalt (MFPA) Weimar weiter stärken. Ziel ist es, bestehende Kompetenzen zu bündeln und Forschungsergebnisse schneller in die industrielle Anwendung zu überführen. Zur feierlichen Grundsteinlegung werden hochrangige Gäste erwartet, darunter Elisabeth Kaiser, Ostbeauftragte der Bundesregierung sowie Thüringens Ministerpräsident Mario Voigt und Wirtschaftsministerin Colette Boos-John.

A recent study at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has shown that digital shopping experiences have a profound impact on body perception with consequences that affect users, the economy, and the environment. The research will be presented and awarded at the prestigious CHI Conference in Barcelona from 13 to 17 April 2026.

The »Tilia Awards« were presented for the first time on 20 March 2026 for scientific and practice-based projects that take new approaches to urban spaces. Out of over 150 entries, 24 winners were selected, including the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the IAB-Institut für angewandte Bauforschung Weimar for their work in the »Akademische Arbeiten und Forschung« (academic work and research) category. The interdisciplinary »GrayToGreen« research project was honoured for its integration of vertical greening and grey water treatment.

Huge success for the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar: Architecture students win the AIV-Schinkel-Preis 2026 in the »Städtebau« (urban design) category. The competition, organised by the »Architekten- und Ingenieur-Verein (AIV)« of Berlin and Brandenburg, is one of the most prestigious awards for young urban planners in the German-speaking world. Weimar was also the recipient of the special prize for »Interdisziplinär und nachhaltig bauen« (interdisciplinary and sustainable construction) and two honourable mentions. The official awards ceremony will take place on Friday, 13 March 2026 at the Stadttheater Luckenwalde as part of a celebratory event.

From 12 to 21 March, the Bauhaus Spring School will once again bring students from all over Europe together in Weimar and celebrate its fifth anniversary. Since 2022, the international teaching format at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has been successfully connecting students from European partner universities. The anniversary programme is taking things to the next level: with a total of eleven interdisciplinary courses, there are more options that ever.

In 1996, the Bauhaus sites in Weimar and Dessau were designated the status of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This recognition and inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Site List were significant steps toward permanently anchoring the Bauhaus in international cultural memory. The inclusion was also crucial for the sustainable preservation and public awareness of the Bauhaus heritage. Over the years, numerous individuals have contributed to the preservation, scientific research, and contemporary and educational presentation of the historic Bauhaus through their commitment and perseverance.

Wood, textiles, and light make up the stand while typography provides the narrative structure. At the end is a shared goal: Representing the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar at the 2026 Leipzig Book Fair. This is the mission that 15 students started their 2025/2026 winter semester with. Under the academic direction of Prof. Michael Herrmann and Torsten Müller from the Professorship of Construction Design and Structural Design, five experimental designs were conceived as part of the interdisciplinary Bauhaus.Module »typotopie«. The concept by students Petter Bolstad, Nina Siegle, and Ngoc Truc Phuong Nguyen was selected for the Fair.

How is housing evolving in times of multiple crises? How do social change and the material design of architecture, neighbourhoods, and infrastructures influence one another? These questions will be addressed on 7 and 8 May 2026 at the »Weiter wohnen wie gewohnt? Gesellschaftliche Transformation und räumliche Materialisierung des Wohnens« conference at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Die Gewinnerinnen des 31. Regionalwettbewerbs Mittelthüringen »Jugend forscht« stehen fest: Insgesamt 17 Erstplatzierte sowie zwei Regionalsieger*innen für die besten interdisziplinären Projekte wurden am Mittwoch, 25. Februar, ausgezeichnet und haben sich für den Landeswettbewerb Thüringen qualifiziert. Mit kreativen Ideen zu Nachhaltigkeit, Medizin, Ressourcenschutz und Digitalisierung überzeugten 110 Schüler*innen aus 16 Schulen und drei Schülerforschungszentren die Jury.

Die Universitätsbibliothek blickt auf ein erfolgreiches Jahr 2025 zurück: Neben klassischen Aufgaben gewinnen insbesondere Services rund um das wissenschaftliche Publizieren eine immer größere Bedeutung. Vor allem der Trend zum Open Access-Publizieren stärkt die Sichtbarkeit der Forschung an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Medienvertreter*innen sind zum 31. Regionalwettbewerb von »Jugend forscht« Mittelthüringen am Mittwoch, 25. Februar 2026, von 14 bis 15.45 Uhr, herzlich in das Universitätshauptgebäude eingeladen. Die anschließende öffentliche Preisverleihung findet 16 Uhr im Maurice-Halbwachs-Auditorium statt.

The procedures for large-volume and heavy-duty transports in the construction industry are complex and time-consuming. This is the conclusion of an analysis by Bauhaus-Universität Weimar graduate Claudia Föllmer. In her Master's thesis, the construction manager developed a practical digitalisation strategy designed to accelerate the entire process chain. At an industry meeting in Willingen on February 11, 2026, she was awarded the Verbands der Baubranche, Umwelt- und Maschinentechnik e. V. (VDBUM) sponsorship award in the »Projekte aus Universitäten und Hochschulen« category for her work.

On 11 February 2026, the newly establishes Media Council met for the first time. The six-member expert committee and the Media Council members were introduced at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Medienvilla by State Secretary Heike Raab, Representative of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate to the Federal Government and for Europe and Media, Rundfunkkommission Coordinator, and the Head of the Thüringer Staatskanzlei and Minister of Media Stefan Gruhner. The required cooperation agreement between the Free State of Thuringia and the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar was also signed at the event.

Der Reformstaatsvertrag zum öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunk hat die Einrichtung eines Medienrats als neue Kontrollinstanz für den ÖRR vorgesehen. Das sechsköpfige Gremium aus unabhängigen Expertinnen und Experten soll künftig regelmäßig die Auftragserfüllung durch ARD, ZDF und Deutschlandradio bewerten und die Weiterentwicklung und Verbesserung des öffentlich-rechtlichen Angebots in den Blick nehmen. Die Ministerpräsidentinnen und Ministerpräsidenten der Länder haben sich auf ihrer Konferenz im Dezember 2025 für die Ansiedlung der Geschäftsstelle an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, als Universität mit renommierter Medienfakultät, entschieden.

Am Mittwoch, 25. Februar 2026, lädt die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar gemeinsam mit der Materialforschungs- und Prüfanstalt (MFPA) Weimar zum 31. Regionalwettbewerb »Jugend forscht Mittelthüringen« ein: Unter dem Motto »Maximale Perspektiven« stellen Schüler*innen aus der Region im Hauptgebäude der Universität ihre Forschungsarbeiten vor und widmen sich aktuellen Fragen aus Wissenschaft und Technik. Besucher*innen haben ab 14 Uhr die Gelegenheit, die Projekte vor Ort zu erkunden und mit den jungen Forscher*innen ins Gespräch zu kommen.

Joint press release with the TMWLLR: Thuringia is pooling and strengthening its expertise in construction technology. The »Thüringer Innovationszentrum für die Zukunft des Bauens« (ThIZ-BAU) intends to develop resource-friendly, sustainable building materials and processes and to transfer new products and technologies into industrial application. Today, as a first step, Thuringia’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Colette Boos-John, presented approval for three forms of funding totalling just under 5.5 million euros (EFRE and state funds) to the participating research institutions in Weimar: the Finger-Institute for Building Material Engineering at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (0.9 million euros), the Institut für Angewandte Bauforschung Weimar GmbH (IAB) (2.5 million euros), and the Materials Research and Testing Laboratory (MFPA) (2.1 million euros). The funding will be used primarily to purchase research equipment. All three institutes will be sponsoring the new »Innovationszentrum« together.

From 12 to 15 February 2026, the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be opening its doors for their »go4spring« semester exhibition. Students will share insights into their work from the 2025/26 winter semester.

Am Dienstag, 3. Februar 2026, übergibt die Thüringer Wirtschaftsministerin Colette Boos-John die Zuwendungsbescheide für das Thüringer Innovationszentrum für die Zukunft des Bauens.

Once a year, the student council of the Faculty of Art and Design invites all students to present their current work in an exhibition. Over 50 projects and courses have registered and can be visited and explored from Friday, 6 February to Sunday, 8 February 2026.
