“Jenny Brockmann: BYPASS” (Distanz Verlag)
On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., a book presentation will take place at the bookstore and gallery M BOOKS Weimar: The book Jenny Brockmann: BYPASS, published by Distanz Verlag in May 2024, will be presented. It contains a documentation of the project series BYPASS, which took place at the Goethe-Institut, London, the Hearth Gallery, Cardiff, and documenta fifteen, Kassel, as well as a text on 'Félix Guattari and the Concept of Transversality' by Henning Schmidgen.
Jenny Brockmann’s sculptures and participatory projects enact artistic research that scrutinizes dynamic spatial and social processes. In laboratory-like settings, she generates art objects and productive situations that invite the audience’s active involvement. Responding to current societal and political concerns with an experimental approach, Brockmann prompts questions concerning patterns of human behavior and social structures.
The series of installations and performances BYPASS was developed across a series of sites. Located at the intersection between art, scholarship, and research, the project illuminates the idea of connectivity from a multiplicity of perspectives and serves as a catalyst for the investigation of transdisciplinary discourses and collaborative methods.
At the event, Prof. Dr. Henning Schmidgen, Professor of Media Theory and History of Science at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, will outline the content of his text on Félix Guattari's concept of transversality and the artist Jenny Brockmann will give insights into the installation and performance series BYPASS.
Interested parties are cordially invited to the book presentation.
