Mit Architektur forschen – was dies heißen kann, demonstriert anschaulich die Werkstattausstellung »13 Positionen« im Hauptgebäude der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Vom 14. Juni bis 6. Juli 2023 präsentiert die Schau der der Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik Projekte, die sich in unterschiedlichen Formaten dem Wohnen forschend widmen. Anlass für die Ausstellung sind das Themenjahr »Wohnen« der Klassik Stiftung Weimar als auch das 100-jährige Jubiläum der Ausstellungen am Staatlichen Bauhaus Weimar.

On 21–22 July 2023, the conference »Non-Machines: Playground of Perspectives« will take place within the Faculty of Art and Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The conference aims to prompt a change of perspectives and to re-explore the relationships between machines and »non-machines«. Interested parties are able to register for this free event up until Friday, 7 July 2023. The focus is on technical integration: »non-machines« include human and non-human actors or tools that are not yet integrated into a machine network. This can for example be a creature evolving freely in nature or a human who is not connected to digital networks.

Ab Mittwoch, 14. Juni 2023, zeigt die Universitätsbibliothek der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar eine Ausstellung mit Plakaten aus der Frühzeit des Kinos. Die 14 Originale und 25 Faksimiles thematisieren die Geschlechterverhältnisse der 1920er Jahre. Eine Katalog-Publikation von Studierenden der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und der Universität Erfurt erschließt die Dokumente.

On Wednesday, 7 June 2023, the Senate of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar followed the proposals made by President Prof. Peter Benz and appointed three new vice presidents. Dr. Simon Frisch was elected Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ulrike Kuch Vice President for Social Transformation and Prof. Dr. Timon Rabczuk Vice President for Research and Projects for a term lasting three years. The three new members of the Presidium will begin leading the university together with President Prof. Peter Benz and Chancellor Dr. Horst Henrici with immediate effect.

Entirely new types of strings for musical instruments are being developed as part of a research project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action currently underway at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. In future, a research team from the Professorship for Interface Design within the Faculty of Art and Design will explore how sensors can be integrated into the strings of musical instruments. A partner from industry is also being involved in the project to enable the innovative strings to be brought to market maturity.

Maximiliane Nirschl has been conferred the »JANUS Award« for the best film in the »Art and Experiment« category at the 17th FullDome Festival Jena. She impressed the jury with her 360-degree animated film about a legend of the Cou people, who dwell in the highlands of Taiwan.

At this year’s annual show at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, students and teachers will present the outcomes of their academic year from 13 to 16 July 2023 and invite visitors to engage in an exchange.

Lena Vogel was honoured during the »3D Pioneers Challenge« in Erfurt for her master’s dissertation project entitled »algae«, which she completed as part of the product design study programme at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The designer used a 3D-printed sculpture made of clay to explore new ways to cultivate microalgae.

During this year’s Open Campus Day (»HIT«) on Saturday, 3 June 2023, prospective students can explore the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus between 9 am and 3 pm. Visitors are able to obtain comprehensive information on studying in Weimar during guided tours of the four faculties, visits to the teaching rooms and workshops, and information sessions.

Under the title »no one belongs here more than you«, the university gallery of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar presents the second part of its exhibition series on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the first Bauhaus exhibition in Weimar’s Schiller Museum. Starting Thursday, 25 May 2023, works exploring themes of belonging, identification and security within the context of living will be available for viewing.

Die Filmreihe »Wohnen« ist eine gemeinsame Veranstaltungsreihe der Dozentur für Film- und Medienwissenschaft an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, der Klassik Stiftung Weimar und dem Lichthaus Kino anlässlich des Jubiläumsprogramms zur ersten großen Bauhaus-Ausstellung vor 100 Jahren.

Bei der diesjährigen Langen Nacht der Museen öffnen Weimarer Museen, Galerien, Archive und Kirchen am Samstag, 13. Mai 2023, von 18 bis 24 Uhr für Besucher*innen ihre Türen. Auch die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ist an drei Standorten mit Vorträgen sowie speziellen Führungen dabei, die ganz im Zeichen des Jubiläums »100 Jahre Bauhaus-Ausstellung« stehen.

Eine Veranstaltungsreihe an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar beschäftigt sich im Sommersemester 2023 mit der Geschichte der Hochschule für Architektur und Bauwesen (HAB). In vier Erzählcafés, die in Kooperation mit der Oral-History-Forschungsstelle der Universität Erfurt stattfinden, berichten Zeitzeug*innen von ihrer Studienzeit in der DDR.

The continuation of the »Equity at Bauhaus« lecture series kicks off in the 2023 summer semester at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and will delve deeper into Media Studies. Speakers will question media and digitalisation from the perspectives of environmental justice and feminism, queer theory, equal opportunity and diversity. The event is part of the »New European Bauhaus Weimar« initiative.

Beim bundesweiten Wettbewerb für innovative, digitale Lösungen in der Bauwirtschaft »Auf IT gebaut« erzielten die Weimarer Absolventen Phil Niemeyer und Felix Roder in der Kategorie »Architektur« sowie Niklas Haschke in der Kategorie »Bauingenieurwesen« jeweils den ersten Platz. Die Arbeiten widmen sich wichtigen aktuellen Herausforderungen der Baubranche: der Digitalisierung, dem kostengünstigen Bauen und dem Erreichen der Klimaschutzziele. Die Preisverleihung fand statt am 18. April 2023 im Rahmen der Weltleitmesse für Architektur, Materialien, Systeme »BAU«.

The business world and society are currently in the midst of a digital transformation. From summer 2023, the »Bauhaus.Mobility Hub« will make a variety of support services available to Thuringia-based companies and public institutions to enable them to take advantage of the opportunities digitalisation brings with it. The transfer initiative is coordinated by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and connects Thuringia with a new, European network of digitalisation centres. The European Union and the Free State of Thuringia are funding the regional centre with the aim of generating local impetus for digitalisation.

Gleich zwei Preise beim Leipziger Kurzfilmfestival »kurzsuechtig« sind in diesem Jahr an Studierende der Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar gegangen. Für ihren Abschlussfilm »Wind Whisperer« erhielt Fernanda Caicedo den Preis der Jury für »Animation«. Elia Zeißig konnte sich über den Nachwuchspreis des Filmverbands Sachsen für seine Semesterarbeit »Es ist kälter geworden« freuen.

Each year, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar announces a new Bauhaus Guest Professor. For the 2023 summer semester, the university will have the privilege of hosting Professor Jane Bennett, who is the Andrew Mellon Professor of the Humanities at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, with appointments in the Department of Comparative Thought and Literature and also in the Department of Political Science. The focus of Bennett’s work lies in political theory; her research interests include ecological philosophy, political thought in the United States, political rhetoric and belief, and contemporary social theory.

Nach vier Jahren kehrt die studentisch organisierte »marke.6« zurück nach Leipzig: Im Rahmen des Frühjahrsrundgangs der Baumwollspinnerei präsentiert sie in der Ausstellung », dass du« zwei Tage lang acht verschiedene künstlerische Positionen aus der Fakultät Kunst und Gestaltung im boesner-Projektraum.

All over Germany, you can find friends living far away from one another, couples in long-distance relationships and grandparents living far away from their grandchildren. While spending time together in video conferences is a possibility, this form of shared experience has its limits. Social Virtual Reality provides extended potential for these interactions. But how can interactions that foster social intimacy be further improved in virtual spaces? This question is the focal point of the »GROOVE« research project. Together with researchers from the Technischen Universität Ilmenau, Brandenburg Labs GmbH and Consensive GmbH, researchers from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be receiving 1.5 million euros in funding over 1.5 years from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
