Image-Text-Conception

Unlike more specialised chairs, such as Photography, Typography or Moving Image, the work carried out within the Image-Text-Conception Chair is characterised by a media-open approach. Within the Visual Communication degree programme, the Chair therefore acts as a Swiss Army knife of sorts. The choice of design methods and tools is not predetermined, but emerges once a viable concept and strong idea have been developed.

Possible outcomes range from exhibitions and app and interaction concepts to audiovisual formats, experimental AI applications, animated or analogue poster series and classic book projects or product developments. Anything that makes sense and leaves a lasting impression is permitted. The aim is to make surprising, innovative and impactful contributions to socially critical issues and help students develop their own distinctive creative voice.

Prof. Burkhart von Scheven and lecturer Masihne Rasuli M.A. facilitate this approach through the use of experimental creativity and evaluation methods. Students are encouraged to step away from familiar creative paths and explore individual fields of research and design, broadening their professional horizons in the process. Project-based work in interdisciplinary teams and hands-on experience in analogue and digital workshops play a central role in this process.
