Bauhaus Exhibition in Potsdam
Bauhaus on the Move! In the summer of 2025, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar was setting up camp in Potsdam for a month. The Fine Arts and Visual Communication programmes had accepted an invitation from KunstHaus and Kunstraum Potsdam to exhibit their latest artistic work in the capital of the state of Brandenburg. In the double exhibition UNBOXING BAUHAUS, Bauhaus students and alumni literally opened their well-packed moving boxes to reveal emerging talent in painting, drawing, sculpture, sound, photography and performance.
Stepping outside of the familiar environment allowed for new explorations of the Bauhaus projection surface and the numerous possibilities that lie behind it. The processuality suggested by UNBOXING BAUHAUS was reflected in both the exhibited works and the artists' on-site performance: during a ten-day residency at the Kunstraum, they developed and produced artworks in the space itself. Aiming to integrate the new environments, they invited the public to participate in their creative process.
The visual communication for UNBOXING BAUHAUS deliberately avoids familiar Bauhaus clichés. Large advertising formats are filled with a dynamic, dancing sans-serif typeface in neon red. One billboard is not enough for an announcement, so an entire 'billboard tree' is created. Alongside this, a three-storey-high removal van serves as the second main motif. Huge advertising spaces are multiplied using Photoshop and AI to form the basis of the exhibition's surreal photomontage identity. Together, these elements create a confident yet humorous and self-deprecating interpretation of the Bauhaus brand. Designed by Ames Grund, Ossian Osborne and Lilli Sörries, the visual identity cleverly – and literally – plays with the projection surface that is the Bauhaus brand.
