ERASMUS internships within Europe for students and graduates

ERASMUS internships within Europe for students and graduates

The European Union funds study-related and practical internships in Europe within its Erasmus programme. Funding is available for both self-organised internships as well as for internships at subject-relevant companies.

The EU-PRAKTIKUM Thüringen (formerly LEONARDO Office Thuringia) based at the TU Ilmenau is responsible for managing the programme for the universities in Thuringia.

Funded countries:

  • European Union member states
  • Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway (EEA states)
  • Turkey, Croatia and overseas territories
  • partner countries: Faroe Islands, Switzerland, (UK - only with Certificate of Sponsorship/Tier5 visa)

Prerequisites:

  • Full-time student at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
  • Graduate of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (application must be submitted while still enrolled as a student!)
  • Doctoral students enrolled at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Duration of Funding:

Long Term:

  • 2 to 12 months per study cycle (Bachelor, Master, Doctoral)
  • 2 to 24 months for single-track programs (e.g. Diploma)

Short Term:

  • Blended Mobility up to 1 month traineeship in presence and additional virtual phase (in Germany).
  • PhD mobility up to 1 month for immatriculated doctoral students

Funding:

  • Erasmus+ grant (the current Funding amounts can be found here)
  • BAföG funding possible
  • Internship pay possible

Application procedure

Where and when to apply:

  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and should be submitted to the EU-Praktikum Thüringen online around 4 months before you wish to start your internship.
  • Graduates wishing to apply for funding must submit their application before they complete their studies.
  • For more important information and a description of the application documents required, see https://www.tu-ilmenau.de/en/international/tu-ilmenau-worldwide/erasmus/eu-praktikum-thuringia/application-and-procedure.

Selection procedure

Selection is based on the application documents you submit. You will need to state in your application your motivation for wishing to complete an internship abroad and the expected impact on your future studies or entry into professional life. The letter of recommendation from your faculty moreover qualifies you for selection for Erasmus+ funding for your planned internship.

Learning Agreement und Grant Agreement

When you meet the prerequisites for funding, the Learning Agreement is prepared and finalised.

Depending on the working language during the internship, an OLS language test and possibly also an OLS language course may be required (available online, free of charge).

The funding agreement for your internship will then be prepared so that the first payment can be made shortly after all of the documents have been submitted (and, where applicable, the language test completed).

Voluntary Internships

Internships are voluntary, if they are not prescribed as compulsory by the study regulations of your degree programme. Voluntary internships can also be funded through the Erasmus programme.
If the voluntary internship does not count towards your degree in terms of ETCS, you may still receive a certificate from the university stating that you completed the internship and the duration/workload of it. Please fill in this form and hand it in to the examination office of your faculty.
