Extension of stay abroad

Extension of stay

We are glad that you like it so much at your host university that you want to stay one semester longer!

Deadline for submitting an extension application to the International Office of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar:

As early as possible but at least 30 days before the end of the originally planned mobility.

The date of the original end date can be found either in the "Grant Agreement" (for ERASMUS exchange students) or the "Letter of Acceptance" (for bilateral exchange students).

You only need to fill in an extension application if you want to extend your stay by at least 30 calendar days.

Please note that an extension of the stay abroad is generally only possible from the winter semester to the summer semester (same academic year).

Note for ERASMUS scholarship holders:
We will automatically check whether an extension of your stay can also be accompanied by an extension of your ERASMUS grant. If confirmed, you will then receive a new "Grant Agreement". Please also note that a new "Learning Agreement (during mobility/changes)" is needed to be issued in the event of an extension.

Note for PROMOS scholarship holders:
Approval of an extension of your stay does not necessarily mean an extension of your PROMOS scholarship. If you have any questions about the extension, please contact andrea.weber[at]uni-weimar.de

STEP 1 | Confirmation of your Host University
In order to extend your stay, please first contact the student exchange contact person at your host university.

Ask for a written confirmation of the possibility to extend your stay by downloading the form "Extension application for ERASMUS stays (outgoing)" or "Extension application for bilateral stays (outgoing)" from the download center of the International Office and have it signed by the hosting university.
Please read the first page of the application carefully.
STEP 2 | Confirmation of your Bauhaus-Faculty

After you have received written confirmation of the extension from your hosting university, please contact the International Counsellor of your Bauhaus-faculty.

Discuss with him/her (and if applicable with your study advisor) whether an extension would be possible from the faculty's point of view and ask him/her to sign the extension request as well.

STEP 3 | Confirmation of the International Office at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
Once you have obtained the signatures of your hosting university and your Bauhaus-faculty, please send the extension application to the International Office of the Bauhaus-Univeristät Weimar (outgoing@uni-weimar.de).

After we have signed it, we will return the extension application to you by mail. Please submit the complete application as confirmation to your host university.

For ERASMUS students: we automatically check if an extension of your stay can also be accompanied by an extension of your ERASMUS grant. After the review, you will receive a new Grant Agreement, if applicable. Please also note that in case of an extension, the preparation of a new Learning Agreement (during mobility) will be necessary.
