PROMOS

The DAAD’s PROMOS programme

A DAAD programme to promote the mobility of students at German universities

As part of the DAAD’s PROMOS programme, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar awards grants for stays abroad lasting up to 6 months. The grants are intended for students whose project abroad is not eligible for any other type of funding (e.g. ERASMUS or another DAAD programme).

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar awards the following PROMOS grants:

  • PROMOS grants for studies abroad
Support is available for study stays abroad lasting at least 1 month and a maximum of 6 months.
Unfortunately, tuition fees cannot be covered. Semester grants are only possible within Europe when there is no ERASMUS cooperation with the corresponding department at the host university.
  • PROMOS grants for internships abroad
Student internships abroad are eligible for funding if they last between 6 weeks and 6 months. This does not apply to internships eligible for funding through other DAAD grant programmes. Due to overlaps with the ERASMUS+ internship programme, internships in the ERASMUS region cannot be funded.

Application requirements

Students enrolled at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar with the aim of achieving the corresponding degree are able to apply (excluding exchange students). Non-German students are not eligible for funding for a stay in their home country.

Application deadlines for PROMOS grants in the 2023 calendar year:

  • 1 December 2022 for stays beginning in the first half of the year (January to June 2023)
  • 5 May 2023 for stays beginning in the second half of the year (July to December 2023)

Please send your application by email to: andrea.weber[at]uni-weimar.de

Include the following documents with your application (please save all documents in the specified order in one PDF file):

  • Application form
  • Letter of motivation (approx. 1–2 pages)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Proof of previous academic achievements (if already available, also include your Bachelor certificate)
  • Letter of recommendation from your faculty
  • Proof of language proficiency (language of the host country, study language or English - if possible please submit language certificates for 2 languages). Please use existing language certificates or a DAAD Language Certificate issued at the language center. Existing language certificates should not be older than three years.
  • Confirmation of acceptance from the host university/internship contract with details of the internship period, role and remuneration (if not yet available, proof of contact)
  • Transcript of records for the current semester
  • Certificates of attendance and certificates from workshops, programs, memberships, etc. mentioned in the application.
  • Other letters of recommendation or assessments, certificates of attendance, work samples or portfolios and the like may also be submitted

You are also required to specify all other scholarships or grants you have applied for or already received.

Selection criteria

The following criteria are used to assess applications:

  • Student’s qualifications/study achievements
  • Relevance of the planned stay to past and future studies, justification and motivation
  • Faculty recommendation
  • Existing language skills necessary for a successful stay
  • Extracurricular criteria/social commitment (e.g. voluntary membership in university organisations and student initiatives, e.g. student council, faculty student council, or non-university organisations/associations)
  • Formal correctness, format and completeness of the application documents

Further assessment criteria

  • Mandatory stay abroad as part of the study regulations
  • Participation in intercultural workshops, e.g. within the Weimar International Network (proof required)
  • Supervision of international students, e.g. within the buddy programme or a language tandem, or as a tutor during the Bauhaus Summer School or International Welcome Days (proof required)
