Betül Peker Wins 2023 DAAD Prize

This year’s DAAD Prize goes to Betül Peker from Türkiye. In addition to her outstanding academic achievements in her Media Art and Design Master's programme, she has demonstrated an impressive range of intercultural and social commitment both within and outside of the University.

»Bauhaus Participation Lab« Receives Over One Million Euros in Funding for Joint Urban Development and Virtual Reality Project

Over the next three years, the Departments of Computer Science in Architecture, Urban Studies and Social Research, and Virtual Reality and Visualisation in the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism and the Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be working together with partners in Weimar and Berlin to research how citizens can participate in urban development processes using virtual reality. The »Bauhaus Participation Lab« joint project is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with nearly 1.3 million euros.

»Zauberberg« and »Maß der Dinge« – Outstanding Final Theses Awards for Architecture and Urbanism

At the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism’s graduation ceremony on 17 November 2023, awards were presented for outstanding final thesis projects. The 23 Bachelor and Master projects nominated by the faculty's departments will be on display in the Main Building until 8 December 2023. The works on display include four award-winning projects from the »Design« and »Research« categories, as well as nine projects that received honourable mentions.

Digital Transformation: Experts from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Make Valuable Contributions to the German Government’s Digital Summit

Each year, the German government hosts a Digital Summit, a congress that addresses the challenges posed by the digital transformation in Germany. The Digital Summit will be held in Jena on 20 and 21 November this year. During the summit, representatives from business, science and civil society will have the chance to engage directly with the German government and discuss the potential and opportunities of the digital transformation on-site. The key question is: How can we harness digital technologies to shape a sustainable and liveable future?

Kreativ durchstarten: Einblicke in Thüringer Karrierewege nach dem Studium

Am 5. Dezember 2023 laden der Career Service und die Gründerwerkstatt neudeli der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar gemeinsam mit der Thüringer Agentur für die Kreativwirtschaft (THAK) und der Thüringer Agentur für Fachkräftegewinnung (ThAFF) zur Veranstaltung »Should I Stay Or Should I Go? – Wege in die Thüringer Kreativwirtschaft nach dem Studium« in die Universitätsbibliothek ein. Ab 15 Uhr sind Studierende und Alumni kreativer Studiengänge dazu aufgerufen, sich durch Impulsvorträge und Beratungsangebote über ihre beruflichen Perspektiven in Thüringen zu informieren.

Produktdesign (Product Design) Work Achieves Double Success with Renowned »Mia Seeger Preis«

Produktdesign (Product Design) duos Julia Huhnholz and Friedrich Gerlach as well as Felix Stockhausen and Michael Mahle were awarded with first place prizes at this year’s »Mia Seeger Preis«. 1,500 euros prize money was awarded for the Bachelor's thesis »The Essence of Biocement«, which has already been recognised with numerous awards, and the semester project »Zweirad«.

Empowering Women in the Startup Scene: Startup Hub »neudeli« Receives Federal Funding

The Startup Hub »neudeli« has been the central point for those interested in starting their own business since 2001. The Hub has recently secured funding through the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action’s (BMWK) »EXIST-Women« programme. neudeli will be receiving up to 105,000 euros, as well as the opportunity to provide women founders with scholarships through the neudeli »empowHER« programme.

Prospective students, pupils and their parents are invited to find out more about studying.

Digital Orientation Evening for Prospective Students and Parents

Twice a year, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers information events on degree programmes and general study conditions. The next Orientation Evening is scheduled to take place digitally on Thursday, 9 November 2023 from 7 to 9 pm. Any interested prospective students and their parents are warmly invited to attend.

»Jugend forscht« im kommenden Jahr wieder an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar: Anmeldungen bis zum 30. November möglich

Die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und die Materialforschungs- und Prüfanstalt (MFPA) Weimar rufen alle kleinen und großen Jungforscher*innen aus ganz Mittelthüringen zur Teilnahme an Deutschlands bekanntestem Nachwuchswettbewerb auf. Die Anmeldung ist bis zum 30. November 2023 unter www.jugend-forscht.de möglich. Der 29. Regionalwettbewerb »Jugend forscht Mittelthüringen« findet am 28. Februar 2024 auf dem Campus der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar statt. Im November 2022 haben die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und die MFPA Weimar die Patenschaft übernommen und tragen den Wettbewerb seither gemeinsam aus.

Future-Oriented Concepts on Campus: »Bauhaus Energy Hub« Experimental Building Celebrates Topping-Out Ceremony

Covering just under 10 square metres, the energy self-sufficient experimental building is a prime example of how architecture can be sustainably rethought and implemented. Following months of effort by students from various disciplines, the experimental building will celebrate its topping-out ceremony on Thursday, October 26, 2023, starting at 4 p.m. in the courtyard of Coudraystrasse 11 to 13. The building’s »Tiny House« concept will be presented in a relaxed event. Interested individuals and media are warmly invited to attend the event.

»Authoritarian Urbanism«: Registration Now for Institute for European Urban Studies Annual Conference

How are architecture, urbanism and urban planning used by authoritarian regimes for government-stabilising purposes? What are the effects of these authoritarian practices at the local level? These questions are among those which will be addressed by academic at the annual conference of the Institute for European Urban Studies at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar from 9 to 11 November 2023.

Mehr Sichtbarkeit für Schriftstellerinnen aus dem 19. Jahrhundert: Ergebnisse des DFG-Forschungsprojektes »Schriftstellerinnen aus der Sammlung Varnhagen« werden digital veröffentlicht

Große Erwartungen verbinden in diesen Tagen Wissenschaftler*innen der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und der Jagiellonen-Universität Krakau: Nach dreijähriger Arbeit werden am 30. September 2023 die Ergebnisse des deutsch-polnischen Forschungsprojekts »Schriftstellerinnen aus der Sammlung Varnhagen. Briefe – Werke – Relationen« auf der durch die Thüringer Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek (ThULB) in Jena gehostete Website schriftstellerinnen-varnhagen.eu öffentlich gemacht. Die digitale Edition ist in enger Zusammenarbeit mit der Jagiellonen Bibliothek in Krakau, der Universitätsbibliothek der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und der Agentur v3 consulting (München) entstanden.

Second Prize for Student Project in the 2023 Thuringian Environmental Awards

On 27 September 2023, the »Freibad-Kolonnade« [»Outdoor Pool Colonnade«] design-build project was conferred second prize in the 2023 Thuringian environmental awards. The project was initiated by the Junior Professorship for »Konstruktives Entwerfen und Erproben« at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for the south Thuringian community of Rippershausen. It successfully prevailed over more than 40 projects submitted for the competition that champions exemplary commitment to climate protection and resource efficiency.
