The student team from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is eagerly anticipating the opening of the Leipzig Book Fair next Thursday, 21 March 2024. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is set to make its first appearance at the book fair since 2019, showcasing an ambitious exhibition stand that has been the culmination of intensive collaboration among team members from various faculties over the past few months. In the art colleges’ exhibition area, for four days there will be a highly interactive stand entitled »Even more reading, even more writing. Neues Schreiben – neues Lesen (New writing – new reading)«.

The urgency of addressing global challenges such as climate change and resource scarcity underscores the importance of rethinking approaches to materials research. Thuringia’s innovation drivers are focussing on sustainable building materials, recycling and closed-loop material cycles. The »Thuringian Materials Day« industry event on 11 March 2024 at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will feature keynote speeches, poster pitches and an industry exhibition. Participation is free of charge.

From 14 to 23 March, 171 students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and its European partner universities will be taking part in the third Bauhaus Spring School. Participants will be able to collaborate creatively and engage in intercultural networking in eight courses relating to the topics of architecture, urbanism, art, design, media, culture, technology and the environment. The international short-term programme began in January 2024 with online courses and will now continue with a nine-day in-person phase in Weimar.

The Building Physics Days 2024 on 6 and 7 March in Weimar will focus on how the needs of people, buildings and the environment can be reconciled. The key topics of the conference are “energy supply”, “indoor climate” and “acoustics”.

Im Vergleich zu den stark von der Corona-Pandemie geprägten Jahren 2020 und 2021 sind die Besuchszahlen der Universitätsbibliothek im Jahr 2023 wieder deutlich gestiegen. Diese waren 2020 im Vergleich zu 2019 um mehr als 50 Prozent zurückgegangen (von 201.844 auf 92.243). Im Jahr 2021 hatte sich dieser rückläufige Trend weiter fortgesetzt. Angesichts der weitgehenden Aufhebung der Pandemiebeschränkungen im Frühjahr hatte sich die Nutzungszahl 2022 mit 112.095 wieder deutlich erhöht. 2023 ist diese Zahl auf 134.791 angestiegen – ein Plus von 20 Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahr.

Die Gewinner*innen des 29. Regionalwettbewerbs von »Jugend forscht« Mittelthüringen stehen fest: Am 28. Februar wurden insgesamt 17 Erstplatzierte gekürt, die sich für den Landeswettbewerb Thüringen qualifiziert haben. Die Universität und die Materialforschungs- und Prüfanstalt (MFPA) Weimar veranstalteten den Nachwuchswettbewerb zum zweiten Mal.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has successfully made it through the first round in the federal and state »Professorinnenprogramm 2030« call for applications. This makes it one of 92 universities in Germany that impressed the jury and received an award for their gender equality policies, structures and measures. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar was one of just 22 universities who were additionally awarded the title of »Gleichstellungsstarke Hochschule« (universities with strong gender equality). This is the fourth time that the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has been successful in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research’s programme for strengthening gender equality at universities.

Im Februar 2024 hat der studentische LUCIA Verlag die Publikation »Auf dem Weg zum Erinnerungsort – Das Gebäude der NS-Medizinbürokratie in Weimar« veröffentlicht. Sie setzt sich mit der Geschichte und Gegenwart des ehemaligen sogenannten Ärztehauses als Knotenpunkt der lokalen und überregionalen Medizingeschichte im Nationalsozialismus auseinander.

Medienvertreter*innen sind zum 29. Regionalwettbewerb von »Jugend forscht« Mittelthüringen am Mittwoch, 28. Februar 2024, von 14 bis 15.45 Uhr, herzlich in das Universitätshauptgebäude eingeladen. Die anschließende öffentliche Preisverleihung findet 16 Uhr im Audimax der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar statt.

2024 is a super election year in Thuringia, Brandenburg and Saxony with local (from 26 May), European (6 – 9 June) and state (1 September in Thuringia) elections all scheduled to take place. The »92 Tage« (92 days) campaign is the brainchild of instructors and alumni from the Faculty of Art and Design and calls on students from all Thuringian universities to register their residence in Thuringia so that they can vote in the upcoming elections and support democracy in the Free State.

This year is the first year since the pandemic that the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be represented with a stand at the Leipzig Book Fair. Guided by the theme: »Even more reading, even more writing. Neues Schreiben – neues Lesen«, students have designed an interactive exhibition that will be set up at Booth H503 (Hall 2) on 70 square metres centred around current developments in reading and writing in conjunction with artificial intelligence. The title of the exhibition ironically references this year’s »Literaturfestivals Leipzig« slogan: »Who is still reading?«

»Mach dir einen Kopf«: Unter diesem Motto findet der 29. Regionalwettbewerb von »Jugend forscht« für Mittelthüringen am Mittwoch, 28. Februar 2024, an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar statt. At the end of the 2023/24 winter semester, the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is inviting interested parties to attend its »go4spring« semester exhibition. In and around the Main Building from 8 to 11 February 2024, students will be shining a spotlight on their semester projects.

Zweimal im Jahr bietet die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar die Möglichkeit, sich rund um die Studienwahl und die Rahmenbedingungen des Studiums informieren zu lassen. Der nächste Orientierungsabend findet am Donnerstag, 1. Februar 2024, von 19 bis 21 Uhr online statt. Studieninteressierte und deren Eltern sind herzlich eingeladen.

Vom 25. Januar bis 18. Februar 2024 widmet sich die Ausstellung »MOSCHVER – SHELTER FOR THE HOMELESS« im Foyer der Universitätsbibliothek der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar dem sogenannten Monolithischem Schichtverfahren, heute besser bekannt als 3D-Druck. Basierend auf den Ideen und Gedanken des Architekten Helmut T. Weingart und des Bauingenieurs Dr. Jörg Stapel aus dem Jahr 1986 schlägt die Ausstellung einen Bogen zu heutigen Anwendungsbereichen der additiven Fertigung in Industrie und Design. Alle Interessierten sich herzlich eingeladen.

Prof. Dr. Eva Hornecker, Professor of Human-Computer Interaction in the Computer Science of Media Department at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, has been named a »Distinguished Member« of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). She was recognised on 17 January 2024 for her significant contributions to the field of tangible, embedded and embodied interactions (TEI). This title recognises Prof. Hornecker’s commitment to the development of the ACM TEI Conference and the wider community.

Am Freitag, 2. Februar 2024, haben Schüler*innen aus Weimar und Umgebung die Gelegenheit, den Bachelor-Studiengang Informatik an der Fakultät Medien der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar kennenzulernen. Dafür gestaltet der Fachbereich Medieninformatik vier interaktive Workshops, bei denen die Teilnehmer*innen aktuelle Themen aus Forschung und Lehre in den Laboren erfahren und testen können. Der Schnuppertag findet von 9 bis 12.30 Uhr auf dem Übergangscampus der Fakultät Medien in der Schwanseestraße 143 statt.

From 2 to 4 February 2024, the student-organised »Winterwerkschau« will take place for the seventh time at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Students will present around 70 projects and study results, mainly from the Faculty of Art and Design, at more than 20 locations. For prospective students, portfolio consultations are offered in the artistic degree programmes, which can be attended without prior registration.

From 24 to 26 January 2024, the Department of »Medientheorie und Wissenscahftsgeschichte« at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be hosting the conference »Assistants, Avatars, Atmospheres. Perspectives on Animism in Media Studies and Media Art«. During this event, experts will discuss the ways in which novel technologies impact how we experience our environment.

Am Mittwoch, 20. Dezember 2023, 17 Uhr, lädt der Fachbereich Medieninformatik an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar alle Interessierten zur Weihnachtsvorlesung in das Audimax in der Steubenstraße 6 ein. Mit dem Thema »Wie entwickeln wir Software mit Verstand?« gibt Prof. Dr. Jan Oliver Ringert, Professor für Software Engineering, einen spannenden Einblick in die Softwareentwicklung.
