Register now for the 14th International Bauhaus Colloquium 2019

From 10 to 12 April 2019, the 14th International Bauhaus Colloquium will take an in-depth look at the history of Bauhaus in its homes of Weimar, Dessau and Berlin and examine its international reputation and migration. You can now register via the conference website www.bauhaus-kolloquium.de. The early-bird discount applies until 15 March 2019.

For the Bauhaus Centenary, the Bauhaus colloquium is bringing together an interdisciplinary community of researchers to critically examine its beginnings and the historical context of the year 1919. It is shedding light on Bauhaus’s sociopolitical rooting in the global history of the 20th century, and examining the establishment of a »Bauhaus architecture« as a stylistic canon in the architectural historiography of the post-war years. »The history of Bauhaus inevitably also reflects questions the issues of current design disciplines«, according to colloquium director Prof. Ines Weizman: »Across four sections introduced by a keynote address given by historian and cultural scholar Stephen Kern, international architects, theoreticians and social scholars from Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the USA will compare historic Bauhaus with the present day. One particular highlight will be an exclusive showing of the film ›The New Bauhaus. How László Moholy-Nagy Brought a Movement to Chicago‹, arriving in cinemas in autumn 2019. In-between presentations, we also hope to create an appealing atmosphere of scientific exchange between architects, artists, scholars, alumni and students.«

The conference is open to all specialists from the worlds of research and practice, as well as students and generally interested parties. Participants can also join for a single day. Conference fees are between €25 and €220 depending on the option chosen. The conference languages are German and English. An early-bird discount applies for registrations by 15 March 2019. Further information is available at www.bauhaus-kolloquium.de.
