Open Call !RRATIONALE

An art festival titled »!RRATIONALE« will take place on the campus of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar 8 to 12 June 2026. We’re looking for performances, actions, interventions, parties, screenings, and other crazy formats that are aesthetically impactful and will take place on or near campus. Ideas can be submitted by Monday, 6 April 2026.

2025 Wachsmann Prize: Award-Winning Projects in Weimar

The 2025 Konrad Wachsmann Student Prize exhibition is coming to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. From 31 March to 23 April, the outstanding final projects in architecture and urban design – including four projects from Weimar – will be on display in the Main Building.

Recap: Vier Tage Leipziger Buchmesse

Vom 19. bis 22. März 2026 präsentierte sich die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in der Halle 5 auf der Buchmesse in Leipzig. Auf 60 qm Standfläche realisierte die Universität ein experimentelles Ausstellungskonzept im Kontext von Typografie, Raum, Struktur, Material, Licht und Inszenierung. Der Messeauftritt »RESONANCE.PATTERN« entstand in einem studentischen, interdisziplinären Bauhaus.Modul unter Leitung von Prof. Dr. Michael Herrmann und Torsten Müller vom Lehrstuhl Konstruktives Entwerfen und Tragwerkslehre.

»Should I Stay Or Should I Go?« - Kreativ gründen in Thüringen

Im Rahmen der neudeli »Design your Future! Creative Entrepreneurship Week« laden die Thüringer Agentur für die Kreativwirtschaft (THAK) und die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar am 9. April 2026 in die Gründungswerkstatt neudeli ein. Unter dem Titel »Should I Stay Or Should I Go?« dreht sich von 14 bis 16.30 Uhr alles um den Einstieg in die kreative Selbstständigkeit in Thüringen und die Frage, warum Zusammenarbeit dabei oft der Schlüssel zum Erfolg ist.

»Forestmade meet up Art Buddies« – Ausstellung und Workshops im Weimar Atrium

Als sozial-ökologisches Projekt im Rahmen von Beyond-Now erkundet »Forestmade« fortlaufend die Möglichkeiten, die der Wald bereithält: What does the forest make? What can be made by the forest? How can forests connect art and people? Mit diesen Fragen im Gepäck wird das Projekt vom 24. bis 30. März 2026 offiziell mit einer Ausstellung eröffnet. In Zusammenarbeit mit der Initiative »Künstler Buddies mal treffen« entsteht die Abschlussausstellung »Forestmade meet up Art Buddies«.

International Teaching Format Continues to Grow: Five Years of the Bauhaus Spring School

From 12 to 21 March, the Bauhaus Spring School will once again bring students from all over Europe together in Weimar and celebrate its fifth anniversary. Since 2022, the international teaching format at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has been successfully connecting students from European partner universities. The anniversary programme is taking things to the next level: with a total of eleven interdisciplinary courses, there are more options that ever.

30 Years of UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Anniversary of Bauhaus Heritage in Weimar

In 1996, the Bauhaus sites in Weimar and Dessau were designated the status of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This recognition and inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Site List were significant steps toward permanently anchoring the Bauhaus in international cultural memory. The inclusion was also crucial for the sustainable preservation and public awareness of the Bauhaus heritage. Over the years, numerous individuals have contributed to the preservation, scientific research, and contemporary and educational presentation of the historic Bauhaus through their commitment and perseverance.

Bauhaus Goes Leipzig: Students Design New Book Fair Stand

Wood, textiles, and light make up the stand while typography provides the narrative structure. At the end is a shared goal: Representing the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar at the 2026 Leipzig Book Fair. This is the mission that 15 students started their 2025/2026 winter semester with. Under the academic direction of Prof. Michael Herrmann and Torsten Müller from the Professorship of Construction Design and Structural Design, five experimental designs were conceived as part of the interdisciplinary Bauhaus.Module »typotopie«. The concept by students Petter Bolstad, Nina Siegle, and Ngoc Truc Phuong Nguyen was selected for the Fair.

BAUHAUS4EU Alliance Open Calls: New Teaching Formats Wanted for Students and Instructors

Interdisciplinary teaching, a green campus, or rethinking vacant rural properties: The BAUHAUS4EU Alliance is initiating three open calls for new international teaching formats. They are looking for European BAUHAUS courses, student-led courses, and Regional Living Labs. All formats are open to the ten partner universities’ communities and should improve international networking in studying and teaching.

Turbokompost, Algen-Biokraftstoff und Drohnen zur Blütenbestäubung: Regionalsieger*innen von »Jugend forscht« an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ausgezeichnet

Die Gewinnerinnen des 31. Regionalwettbewerbs Mittelthüringen »Jugend forscht« stehen fest: Insgesamt 17 Erstplatzierte sowie zwei Regionalsieger*innen für die besten interdisziplinären Projekte wurden am Mittwoch, 25. Februar, ausgezeichnet und haben sich für den Landeswettbewerb Thüringen qualifiziert. Mit kreativen Ideen zu Nachhaltigkeit, Medizin, Ressourcenschutz und Digitalisierung überzeugten 110 Schüler*innen aus 16 Schulen und drei Schülerforschungszentren die Jury.

Erfolge beim ICOMOS-Studierendenwettbewerb 1960PLUS »Konstruktion«

Am 20. Januar 2026 fand an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar die Preisverleihung des ICOMOS-Studierendenwettbewerbs 1960PLUS 2025 zum Thema »Konstruktion« statt. Der vom International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) ausgelobte Wettbewerb widmete sich dem jungen Bauerbe ab 1960 und rückte insbesondere die Bedeutung der (Bau-)Konstruktion für die Denkmalwürdigkeit ausgewählter Objekte in den Fokus.

Maximale Perspektiven für junge Forschung: Regionalwettbewerb »Jugend forscht Mittelthüringen« an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Am Mittwoch, 25. Februar 2026, lädt die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar gemeinsam mit der Materialforschungs- und Prüfanstalt (MFPA) Weimar zum 31. Regionalwettbewerb »Jugend forscht Mittelthüringen« ein: Unter dem Motto »Maximale Perspektiven« stellen Schüler*innen aus der Region im Hauptgebäude der Universität ihre Forschungsarbeiten vor und widmen sich aktuellen Fragen aus Wissenschaft und Technik. Besucher*innen haben ab 14 Uhr die Gelegenheit, die Projekte vor Ort zu erkunden und mit den jungen Forscher*innen ins Gespräch zu kommen.

On 5 and 6 March 2026, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be hosting the Bauhaus Colloquium for Emerging Researchers. Insights into Studies: Winterwerkschau Shows Projects and Experiments by Art and Design Students

Once a year, the student council of the Faculty of Art and Design invites all students to present their current work in an exhibition. Over 50 projects and courses have registered and can be visited and explored from Friday, 6 February to Sunday, 8 February 2026.

Round Tables on Performative Design Processes in the Research Project »IN TUNE«

As part of the research project IN TUNE: Performing Material Attunement for Post-Authorial (Architectural) Design Practices, two public round tables will take place on Monday, February 16, and Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 6.30 – 8 p.m. each evening. International designers and architects will discuss performative and material-based approaches in architecture and design, both on site and online.

From Process to Aesthetic: Research Project Examines Postcolonial Modernities Between Cinema, Print, and Design

How did modernist design ideal spread beyond Europe? And what did they come to mean in South Asian media cultures? This question forms the foundation of the »From Process to Aesthetic: Recontextualizing Modernism in South Asia through Cinema, Print, and Object-Oriented Ontology« (2025–26) research project. Funded by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s research workshop initiative, the project focusses on architecture, media, and material aesthetics and consistently examines modernism from a postcolonial perspective.
