»We are celebrating the election of Dr. Kuch as new Rector of the University of Applied Arts Vienna with smiles and a little sadness«, says Prof. Peter Benz, President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. »We aware, through our own experience, of the outstanding work Dr. Kuch does in a broad range of areas and contexts; we will miss her contributions, perspectives, and personality. At the same time, we congratulate the University of Applied Arts on their keen instinct in expanding their team with such a multi-talented academic and leader in the confluence between science, art, and design. It is a wonderful indicator and a significant step towards establishing the University’s position within the current context.«
Dr. Ulrike Kuch has been associated with the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for a number of years. She has been serving as Vice President in Prof. Peter Benz Presidential Board since June of 2023 and took on the challenge of steering and overseeing »social transformation« at the University. Dr. Kuch studied architecture beginning in 1999 and has since been involved in numerous positions and committees. After graduating, she was employed as a scientific staff member and joined the Senate, where she served on the Projects & Research Committee. She has been a member of the University Assembly since December 2022 and has also served co-director of the Bauhaus Institute of History and Theory of Architecture and Planning.
For the past two years, she has initiated a number of projects as Vice President, including implementing the key theme of »Demokratie stärken« (strengthening democracy), establishing the »Beyond Now« annual theme, the Thuringian Universities Sustainability »Nachhaltigkeitsabkommen«, and numerous other projects aimed at increasing the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s impact on society.
