2023 Winterwerkschau at the Faculty of Art and Design with Portfolio Consultations and Student Advising

From 3 to 5 February 2023, the sixth annual student-organised Winterwerkschau will take place at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Faculty of Art and Design. Students are invited to present their study projects and work in a wide variety of formats over the course of the three-day event. The Winterwerkschau will be rounded out by information events on studying at the Faculty of Art and Design.

Game Development, Virtual Reality and Eye Tracking: »BITE THE BYTES« »Schnuppertag« (Open House Day) Provides Exciting Insights into Computer Science in Weimar

On Friday, 3 February 2023, students from in and around Weimar are invited to discover the Computer Science Bachelor degree programme at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The Computer Science of Media Department is hosting six interactive workshops for the event where participants can explore and learn about current topics in research and teaching in the Faculty of Media’s labs. The »Schnuppertag« will take place from 9 am to 1 pm on the Faculty of Media’s new temporary campus at Schwanseestraße 143.

»Der gefühlvolle Computer: Eine Einführung in das Physiological Computing« – Einladung zur Weihnachtsvorlesung der Weimarer Informatik

Am Mittwoch, 21. Dezember 2022, 17 Uhr, lädt der Fachbereich Medieninformatik an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar alle Interessierten zur Weihnachtsvorlesung in das Audimax in der Steubenstraße 6 ein. Mit dem Thema »Der gefühlvolle Computer: Eine Einführung in das Physiological Computing« gibt Dr. Jan Ehlers, Juniorprofessor für Usability, einen spannenden Einblick in die noch junge Teildisziplin der Informatik.

Listening to the World - Artistic Research Project on the occasion of 100 years of radio launched at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

In 2023, radio in Germany will be 100 years old. To mark this anniversary, the project »Listening to the World - 100 Years of Radio« has now been launched as a cooperation between the Professorship »Experimental Radio« at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the Goethe-Institut, Deutschlandfunk Kultur and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of World Cultures).

Intelligent stacking of resource-saving building material: Bundespreis Ecodesign honours Maren Klamser's »5TONS« master's thesis

Product design graduate Maren Klamser has been awarded the prestigious »Bundespreis Ecodesign« (German Ecodesign Award) in the »Nachwuchs« (Newcomer) category. As part of her final thesis, she developed a recyclable mineral solid from building rubble and transferred it into a deconstructable masonry system. The prize is endowed with 1,000 euros in prize money.

Curating the Feed: Who and What Influences Our Social Media Feeds?

The posts that appear on our social media feeds seem to have mostly been compiled randomly. However, the image feeds – which is to say the visual sequences – in the background actually follow very specific criteria and are tailored precisely to each individual user. Which factors influence this composition? From 1 February 2023, researchers will investigate just this question within the interdisciplinary research project on »Curating the Feed« funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and identify and analyse the various factors.

Stadt der Zukunft: Wie die Mobilitätswende mithilfe Künstlicher Intelligenz gelingen kann

Seit drei Jahren werden unter Federführung der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in der Thüringer Landeshauptstadt Erfurt neue Mobilitätskonzepte entwickelt, erprobt und analysiert. Zeit für eine Zwischenbilanz: In einer ganztägigen Schau aus Vorträgen, Pitches und Diskussionen präsentiert das »Bauhaus.MobilityLab« am Mittwoch, 30. November 2022, von 10 bis 18 Uhr in der Zentralheize Erfurt bisherige Projektergebnisse, stellt smarte Dienstleistungen im Bereich Mobilität, Energie und Logistik vor und zeigt ungenutzte Potenziale für interessierte Kooperationspartner auf.

MEDIENKUNSTPREIS 2022 awarded to students of the Faculty of Art and Design

Three students from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar were honoured with this year's Medienkunstpreis (Media Arts and Design Award) on Saturday, 26 November 2022: Fernanda Caicedo, Sandra Rücker and Nik Dommermuth received the prize for the best final projects in the degree programme Media Art / Media Design (Media Art and Design). The award ceremony took place in the EIGENHEIM Weimar gallery in the Weimarhallenpark.

Winners of the »OPEN HORIZONS« Photo Competition Honoured

On Tuesday, 22 November 2022, the prizes were conferred at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for the best work submitted for the »OPEN HORIZONS« photo competition. International Office conferred the prizes in cooperation with University Communications. Photographs were sought that reflected students’ impressions of their place of study or internship abroad. International students’ impressions of their new place of study, Weimar, were also sought.

How Safe Are Crosswalks? European Comparative Study Launches in Weimar

Whether it’s cars, bicycles or pedestrians, Julius Uhlmann is analysing how users behave at crosswalks as part of his PhD at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. With the help of video recordings from Germany, Poland and Latvia, the project investigates the risks posed at crosswalks and whether cultural differences affect road traffic behaviour. Starting in mid-November, assessments will be made in cooperation with the City of Weimar.

Material History, Building Component Hunters and Fresh Perspectives: Prizes Awarded for Top Final Theses in Architecture and Urbanism

Outstanding final theses were awarded prizes at this year’s graduation ceremony in the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism on 11 November 2022. A total of 51 projects were submitted and the jury awarded three prizes and eight honourable mentions Following the presentation at the Eiermannbau, all award-winning projects will be displayed in the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Main Building from 17 to 30 November 2022.

Beyond Fast Fashion: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar to Attend 27th Climate Change Conference

At an invitation from the United Nations (UN), Weimar students will be presenting their ideas for sustainable textile use at the COP27 in Egypt on 11 November 2022. They will discuss with international textile industry retailers and manufacturers how to optimise the recycling of old clothing. The concepts were developed as part of the interdisciplinary Bauhaus.Module »Textile.Umwelten«, in which the students closely examined, questioned and rethought textile supply chains.

Discover the Future and Experience Research Up Close and Personal at the Long Night of Sciences 2022

This year’s Long Night of Sciences invites all those interested to experiment, discover and learn about how science work through events across Weimar and Weimarer Land on Friday 18 November 2022 from 6 pm until midnight. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will also be hosting events at four locations within the city. With the slogan »WISSEN.MACHT.ZUKUNFT«, visitors will be given insight into current research and be provided with answers to complex questions. A large number of presentations, exhibitions, lectures, interactive experiments and guided tours will show what studying in the future might look like.

Die DDR nach der DDR: Ostdeutsche Lebenserzählungen

Eine Buchpräsentation und das sich anschließende Format »Erzählcafé« wollen am Donnerstag, 17. November 2022, DDR-Historie greifbar machen und die Geschichte der Stadt Weimar und der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar vor und nach 1990 ergründen.

Doppelausstellung mit Abschlussarbeiten aus Architektur und Urbanistik

Zwei Ausstellungen an zwei Orten zeigen im November eine Auswahl an Abschlussarbeiten der Absolvent*innen aus den Architektur- und Urbanistikstudiengängen der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Zunächst werden im Eiermannbau in Apolda am 12. und 13. November über 50 Arbeiten ausgestellt. Eine Auswahl an prämierten Arbeiten ist im Anschluss daran im Hauptgebäude der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar vom 17. bis 30. November zu sehen.
