Road Transportation Systems Engineering development in the Sub-Saharan Africa – Modern EU Master Programme & Capacity Building
Project plan
The importance of transport systems and their significant impact on the socio-economic development of a nation cannot be overstated. However, the development of effective, efficient and sustainable transportation system requires highly specialized technical and management professionals, in the field of Road Transportation Systems Engineering (RTSE). In this context, developing countries, particularly those in the Sub-Saharan Africa, face challenges due to shortage of highly skilled professionals in the field of RTSE. Since universities play a leading role in educating such professionals, it becomes necessary to engage, support and share experiences of European Universities. Such collaborations would facilitate the transfer of scientific knowledge and practical experiences in preparing high-quality curricula and didactic materials in RTSE.
Project aim
AfroTrans project specifically aimed the transfer of scientific knowledge and practical experience of three European Universities (Gdansk University of Technology (GTU), Alpen Adria University (AAU), Bauhaus University of Weimar (BUW)), to five Sub-Saharan Africa region universities from Cameroon (University of Dschang (UDS), University of Yaoundé(UYI)), and DR Congo (Université Libre des Pays des Grands Lacs(ULPGL), Université de l'Assomption au Congo (UAC), Université Officielle de Ruwenzori (UOR)).
The main goal of the AfroTrans project is to develop a new master’s curriculum:
- Building an e-learning platform with access to the Project’s products;
- Development of didactic materials in the area of Road Transportation Systems Engineering, dedicated to conducting classes at universities and training courses;
- Increasing competence and skills in the field of RTSE by changing the curricula at universities and equipping students and staff with teaching materials based on innovative methods and tools;
- Development of lasting relations and continuation of active international cooperation between the Project partners with the possibility of extending it to other institutions.
