The market increase in electro mobility is influenced by various factors and parameters. One important aspect is the supply of publicly accessible charging infrastructure. Until now, the expansion in Thuringia happened rather uncoordinated and randomly. Many electric vehicle charging stations are accessible on specific hours only and there is no consistent payment system. In collaboration with the Frauenhofer Institute of Optotronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation (IOSB) Ilmenau, the Chair Transport System Planning is developing a strategy for the expansion of the public charging infrastructure for the Thuringia Department of the Environment.
The aim of this study is to work out a proposal, which includes a gradual, appropriate expansion of the charging infrastructure until 2020, identifies the needed space accordingly and quantifies the required number of charging stations. Furthermore, guidelines for the technical equipment and payment options shall be elaborated. Finally, it is intended to estimate the power demand of electric mobility in Thuringia until 2020 and present options for coverage through renewable sources of energy.
