EuroS@P Spring School in Weimar

From March 25 to March 27, 2026, the Spring School of the Erasmus+ project “EuroS@P” will take place in Weimar. The topic of the three-day English-language training course is the safety analysis of road networks. Students and professionals from the field of traffic safety from both Germany and abroad are invited to attend. Registration is now open.

The EuroS@P Spring School 2026 offers an intensive three-day training programme on modern road infrastructure safety management and network-wide road safety assessments. Participants gain theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience through lectures, practical exercises, and discussions with leading European experts. The course covers road infrastructure safety management principles, accident data analysis, reactive and proactive approaches, accident-based network safety analysis, road network segmentation, hazardous section identification, and risk assessment. Practical sessions allow participants to apply methodologies and strengthen analytical and decision-making skills. The course integrates proactive and reactive safety approaches and presents established European practices, such as the German Network-Wide Road Safety Assessment (ESN) approach. Interactive discussions, workshops, and feedback sessions foster knowledge exchange and professional networking among participants. By the end of the Spring School, participants have a solid methodological foundation and practical insight to support road safety planning, implementation, and evaluation at network level.

Participation

The summer school is open for road infrastructure professionals and master and PhD students alike. Previous knowledge of basic concepts regarding road infrastructure and road safety is expected. The participation is free of charge and includes all lectures, practical sessions, materials as well as lunch and coffee breaks during the spring school. For students, free hostel accommodation is available. The maximum number of participants is limited. A certificate of participation will be awarded upon successful completion of the spring school. For German Road Safety Auditors, this course can be used for the certificate renewal according to MAZS. For students, a certificate for 3 ECTS credit points can be issued (acceptance depending decision of the home university).  All activities will be conducted in English, but an upper intermediate level is sufficient. Please bring a laptop (Windows or Mac) with MS Excel and QGIS installed for the practical tasks. Materials will be distributed using the moodle e-learning platform.
