The Chair of Intelligent Technical Design is concerned with the application of modern information and communication technology (ICT) during the design, the construction and the operation of civil infrastructure, such as buildings, bridges, tunnels, road and pipe networks. In this regard, we use methods of Building Information Modelling (BIM), Computer Vision and Machine Learning as well as Virtual and Augmented Reality to efficiently and sustainably inform decision makers.

Guest lecture: BIM-based life cycle assessment
On January 20, 2025, Felix Hermann from the company Afry gave a guest lecture on “BIM-based life cycle assessment” as part of the lecture BIM in Civil Engineering (Master of Structural Engineering).
The lecture was thus enhanced by impressive practical examples that highlighted the potential of the BIM method. The examples also clearly illustrated the influence of decisions in early planning phases on the resulting life cycle assessment. A holistic approach is chosen for the calculation of the life cycle assessment, which also includes transportation routes, for example.
