Self-service brings some changes:
- On the holds shelf near the service desk (main building, ground floor) you will find books and DVDs you requested from the closed stacks as well as reserved items.
- You'll be able to retrieve your requested items from this shelf. Items are sorted by the last 3 digits of patrons' library numbers.
- Please register your requested items at the self-service terminal to borrow them. You will need your valid thoska. Instructions are provided onscreen.
- You will be able to return items either at the self-service terminals or in the book drop (entrance area). Please note that special collection materials and inter-library loans need to be returned at the service desk (main building, Steubenstr. 6) during our service hours from Monday to Friday, 9am ‒ 6pm.
- Please also remain aware of any changes to our regulations due to Covid-19 antimeasures.

Service hours
You will meet library staff at the service desk (main building, ground floor) Die Servicetheke (Hauptbibliothek, Ebene 0) during the following hours:
Monday to Friday, 9am ‒ 6pm
The following services are available during these hours:
- Questions, information and reference,
- Create a library account or de-register,
- Pick up inter-library loans, requested periodicals and copies,
- Purchase inter-library loan credits,
- Pick up Handapparat items ,
- Reserve a study room.
Request, renew and reserve items
Requesting books from the closed stacks
Registered library users may request items from the closed stacks in our online catalogue (OPAC) or our discovery system Bibsearch. Items will be delivered from the stacks each day from Monday to Friday at 9am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Please place your request 30 minutes or more ahead of a delivery time to be guaranteed delivery by that time. The books and journals will be held for 5 days at the service desk. Items from the open access area and textbook collection may be retrieved directly from the shelves.
Renewing a loan
If you need a book for longer, please renew your loan in your library account in the online catalogue (OPAC) or our discovery system Bibsearch. Be sure to renew items in time. An item can be renewed up to ten times, unless another library patron places a reservation on that copy in the online catalogue (OPAC), in which case you will receive an e-mail. If items are not returned by the due date, the library will raise fees according to the respective regulations (»Gebührenordnung der Universitätsbibliothek der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar« (amendment 1 to the library regulations).
Reserving items
You may place a reservation on a checked out item. Please check availability in the online catalogue (OPAC) or our discovery system Bibsearch. You will receive an e-mail notification when a reserved item becomes available. Your library account must contain a valid e-mail address in order for you to receive notifications. If you do not have an e-mail address, we will notify you by mail and, in accordance with fee regulations (»Gebührenordnung der Universitätsbibliothek der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar« (amendment 1 to the library regulations), raise a reservation fee equal to the postage required.
E-mail reminder before the due date
As an additional service, the university library will send a reminder to your registered e-mail address one day before an item is due in order to avoid reminder fees as much as possible. Please be aware that if you do not receive that reminder for any reason, fees will nonetheless be raised after your loan period ends, according to the library's fee regulations (appendix 1 to the library regulations).
