From the 2021 summer semester, the state of Thuringia will support students from low-income families who are beginning their studies at a Thuringian university for the first time. The »StudiumThüringenPlus« start-up grant of 500 euros can be applied for now at the Studierendenwerk Thüringen (Student's Union Thuringia). The grant is intended for expenses related to the start of studies, such as PC hardware and software, study materials and study literature, language courses or the semester fee. The aim is to lower the financial hurdle to starting a degree programme. The programme will initially run until the winter semester 2023/2024.
»StudiumThüringenPlus« is aimed at those who receive support under the BAföG. The assessment of need is based on the provisions of the BAföG. For the summer semester 2021, the financial aid can still be applied for until 31 March 2021. All that is required is a copy of the admission to studies in the first semester and a personal confirmation that a BAföG application has been submitted. New foreign students who are not eligible for BAföG can provide proof by submitting a self-disclosure of their income and financial circumstances.
All details on the conditions and how to apply can be found at the Studierendenwerk Thüringen website.
