Student Representative on the Diversity Advisory Committee
In October 2020, Zelda Diedrich (B.A. Media Art and Design, Faculty of Art and Design, 4th semester) was elected as Student Representative to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Diversity Advisory Committee. In this position, Zelda has been working as contact person for students from all faculties on the topic of diversity and anti-discrimination in research and teaching. Zelda acts as a spokesperson for students, bringing their suggestions and criticism to the Diversity Advisory Committee. We are pleased to introduce Zelda Diedrich here with a short interview.
How did you hear about the position of Student Representative on the Diversity Advisory Committee, and why did you decide to apply for the position?
»In one of the StuKo meetings, I learned that they were looking for a new student representative, and that general interest in the position was low. I had also interacted with the committee and some of its members before. As a white, able-bodied person, I did not (and still don’t) feel particularly qualified to adequately represent all students on this committee, which addresses such a wide range of topics; nevertheless, I decided to run for this office to be able to share my critique of the patriarchal, racist, and anti-queer structures of this university in one of its advisory boards.«
What are your hopes and goals for your term of office as a Student Representative on the Diversity Advisory Committee?
»I hope to adequately represent the students’ interests and to be a contact person for them as well. I would like to contribute to critically examining discriminatory, hierarchical structures at the university from an intersectional perspective, and ideally to dismantling them.«
