Mind your biases!
Tutorial »Gender-sensitive appointment procedures« for members of appointment commissions now in moodle!
Women continue to be significantly underrepresented among professors at universities, including at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
With 31% of professors being women, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is only slightly above the German average and still has a long way to go before achieving gender parity in professorial appointments.
The reasons for this are linked to existing gender stereotypes and biases, which have a significant influence on the outcome of appointment procedures. The tutorial shows how members of appointment committees can recognize and overcome gender stereotypes and biases to contribute to gender-sensitive procedures and thus actively support the promotion of women's appointments.
The tutorial is divided into five parts, consisting of texts, short exercises, and reflection tasks. It is available in German and English.
It was developed in collaboration with Dr. Sabine Blackmoore and Dr. Lisa Horvath with funding from the Professorinnenporgramm III des Bundes und der Länder.
Members of current appointment committees are informed about the tutorial and automatically activated in moodle. All other interested members of the university can request access to the tutorial from the Equal Opportunity Office.
