Awareness Team

Events and parties are an important part of university and student life. However, people sometimes experience discrimination, abusive behaviour or violence at events and parties. To ensure that everyone feels safe, we provide awareness teams for the university's events.

The task of the awareness team is to work actively against discriminatory and/or transgressive behaviour during the event. The members of the team can be approached by people who are affected by discrimination and abusive behaviour during the event. In addition, the team members approach individuals who discriminate against or attack others.

The team members declare their solidarity and partiality for those affected by discrimination and assist them as best they can during the event. They also point to support and councilling services which can be contacted later on.

What does awareness mean?

Awareness means »giving attention«. At an event or party, the awareness team offers support to those affected by discrimination, harassment or violence and creates a space in which discriminatory and/or abusive behaviour is addressed.

Who is part of the awareness team?

The awareness team consists of students of the university who participated in an awareness-workshop. They have been trained to be members of an awareness team.

At university events and parties, an awareness team of at least two people should be present.

How can I organise a discrimination-sensitive event and party?

To ensure that everyone has a good time at the university’s events and parties, the following guidelines give recommendations for event and party organisers:

  1. Advertising and location
Make sure that the advertising for the party is not discriminatory in any way. Make sure that the party is accessible for all (if possible, choose a barrier-free location).
  2. Awareness team
Invite the awareness team for the event using the online form. If possible, meet the awareness team before the event and discuss the event.
  3. Retreat room (with water)
Please provide a room where the awareness team can bring guests who are not feeling well. This room should only be used for retreat in emergencies. It does not have to be permanently monitored, but should not have any other function during the event.
  4. Drinks
Make sure that non-alcoholic drinks are offered as well and that the cheapest drink is non-alcoholic. This is also required by law. At least tap water should be available at every bar and served free of charge on request.

How can I book the awareness team?

If you want to book an awareness team for your university event, please use the online form (about 3 weeks in advance).
