In early December 2024, Aleida Assmann drew attention to the connection between history and identity – the »soul« in the 19th century – when the Audimax was renamed the Maurice-Halbwachs-Auditorium. Addressing its own history is a constant challenge for the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, including the widespread misrepresentation of National Socialist history, which is a matter of concern in Thuringia. And how can we possibly not consider the global historical context when we think about our identity? Panellists will be looking at the future of history from their own perspectives and discussing the role of universities in this multifaceted field.
Prof. Dr. Jens-Christian Wagner, Director of the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorial Foundation and Professor of »Geschichte in Medien und Öffentlichkeit« at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, and Prof. Dr. Henning Schmidgen, Professor of »Medientheorie und Wissenschaftsgeschichte« at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, have been invited to the event. The event will be moderated by Carsten Tesch, Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk.
