This will enable the library to handle the high demand for access to literature for teaching and research activities. The public service areas of the University Library will remain closed. On-site information and advising services will not be available, but they are available by e-mailing info@ub.uni-weimar.de or by calling  49 (0) 36 43/58 28 10. 

The online catalogue (OPAC) and the Discovery Service (BibSearch) will be activated for orders from the University Library’s collection of media. Books and DVDs that have been ordered will be available to borrow for five days from the day after the order is placed and are checked out in advance to the person ordering them to enable a quick check-out. Loans can also be extended up to ten times. Journals cannot be borrowed or reserved for the time being.

New students, staff and professors of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar can register to use the University Library via the online form. This will be approved once new users have presented official photo ID at the circulation desk.

The University Library is complying with the necessary hygiene regulations, and asks all users to adhere to the safety precautions generally applicable during the coronavirus pandemic and to wear a face mask. The entry and exit have been separated to enable quick loan issues and returns. Visitors can only enter the University Library building via the outer door on Schützengasse (university forum).

After the decision by the German Chancellor and the Minister Presidents of the federal states on Wednesday 15 April 2020 and the Thuringian State Government’s conclusions from the same day made it possible for certain restrictions to be eased, the President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the University Library directors considered it important to reopen lending so that the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s teaching and research activities could continue during the summer semester.
