»The rest of the Presidential Board and I are so pleased that Prof. Morgenthal, with his professional expertise and years of research experience, has been confirmed by the Senate as the new Vice President of Projects and Research at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. With his appointment, we will be gaining new perspectives and a new addition to the University Directorate who will enrich our work and the work of the university as a whole. At the same time, I wish to thank outgoing Vice President Prof. Rabczuk for his commitment over the past few years«, said University President Prof. Peter Benz.
Prof. Morgenthal has held the Professorship of »Modelling and Simulation of Structures« at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering since 2010. He is well-connected throughout the university and has been involved in various university committees for many years. Prof. Morgenthal was a Faculty Board member for ten years and also belongs to his faculty’s Graduate Admissions Committee and is Chair of the examination committee. He is the Director of the Institute of Structural Engineering (IKI) and the Programme Director for the Master’s degree programmes »Bauingenieurwesen (Civil Engineering) – Construction Engineering« and »Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural Engineering«. He has also been the Deputy Director of the Bauhaus Research School since 2012. Prof. Morgenthal has been responsible for a broad range of projects in his own research in the field of masonry construction and bridge engineering, structural dynamics, wind engineering, and structural monitoring. These projects were supported by major third-party donors including the Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft, the Bundesforschungsministerium, and the Thüringer Aufbaubank.
When it comes to his work as Vice President for Projects and Research, Prof. Morgenthal states: »The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar can contribute immensely to social changes and transformation processes through its strong and diverse research. We want to offer all researchers good conditions and to make their work as visible as possible.«
